Two major events for National YWCA
Week, which starts Sunday, will be the
silver tea next Thursday afternoon and
the banquet for the Salore and CQ clubs,
on Thursday evening. .
The annual silver tea next Thursday
afternoon will be given at the attractive
Fairmount Hill home of Mrs. Sidney B.
Lewis, 340 Lane Place.
All friends of the YW are extended

The Salem Music Teachers association
Is presenting Miss Hope Jaquith, vio
linist, in a concert on Sunday afternoon,
Aoril 29, at 3 o'clock in Waller hall on
Willamette university campus. Miss
Margaret Steinmetz is to be the accom
panist. Miss Jaquith was graduated from Sa
lem high school and Lewis and Clark
college of music. She has studied with
Boris Sirpo for the past eight years and
previously studied with Mary Headrick
In Salem. Miss Jaquith has been soloist
everal times in Portland and four times
with the Lewis and Clark college sym
phony orchestra. Also, she has been
loloist with the Portland Chamber or
chestra of which she has been a member
since it was organized five years ago.
Miss Jaquith also assisted in the Hood
River concerts and festivals.
Coffee is much on the mind of a large
group of Salem women the next three
weeks with the "coffee hour chain" spon-r-ored
by the Salem YWCA getting under
lway Monday with . the first series of
parties. .
About 60 women launch the chain
Monday, entertaining a group of four
each for coffee. These four In turn each
entertain four more, and the guests at
the second round entertain four each lat
er for the third and final party.
The series is arranged as one means
to build up funds for the proposed new
YWCA plant In Salem. Mrs. Richard Up
john is general chairman for the series,
Mrs. G. Herbert Smith, co-chairman, and
Mrs. Wallace Carson on the committee.

Banquet Event
The banquet to be sponsored by Sa-
lore and the CO clubs is to be at the
Pine Inn at 7 p.m. Thursday. The event
celebrates the World's YWCA Member
ship Day, business and professional
women all over the world in YWCA
groups giving similar events. The pro
pram will feature the international
theme as will the decorations. Folk
dances representative of several coun
tries will be presented.
Mrs. Ron F. Buick, who is visiting
from Masterton, New Zealand, will be
the speaker.

Tri-Y girls are having their special
national week event in the form of the
annual Cotton Ball this evening in the
senior high school gymnasium, between
8:30 and 11:30 o'clock. Highlighting
the evening will be the naming of King
Cotton.
Luncheon Saturday
1 An event for next Saturday will be
the annual spring luncheon of the City
Panhellenic organization. The event is
the open meeting for all members of
Panhellenic sororities. The luncheon
will be at 1 p.m. at the Pine Inn.
Mrs. Regina Ewalt, dean of women
at Willamette university is to report on
the state conference she attended in
Portland for deans; and Miss . Mary
Bash, dean of women at Oregon State
college, is to talk on the Panhellenic
conference at Spokane.
Reservations for the luncheon should
be in by next Wednesday evening,

Mrs. W. C. Dyer, Sr. and Mrs. George

auxiliary. Capital unit No. 8, are to meet

dence, Monday evening. A chartered
bus will leave Beaver hall that evening
at 6:30 o'clock to take the girls to Independence.

The Wednesday evening literature
group is meeting with Miss Lelia John

cussion. The recent graduate group is to meet
on Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock at the
home of Mrs. Robert E. Corey. Miss
Barbara Causey is to be co-hostess.
International relations group has a
special program planned for its luncheon
meeting on Wednesday, April 25, in
the Copper room of the Senator hotel
at 12 o'clock. Mrs. Robert Thornton,
state chairman of international rela
tions in the AAUW for the past two
years and the newly named vice presi
dent for the state group, is to be speak
er. Mrs. Thornton is here from Tilla
mook with her husband who is in the
house of representatives in the legis

party and each girl is to come dressed
as a famous character.

Mrs. Kron, a charter member, was pres
ent for the 35th anniversary tea given
by Hal Hibbard auxiliary, United Span-'
ish War Veterans, Tuesday afternoon.

Xi Lambda chapter of Beta Sigma Phi

Guest at Woman's Club Friday
Guest speaker for Salem Woman's
club next Friday afternoon will be
Mrs. H. M. Zell of Wasco, president of
the Oregon Federation of Women's clubs.
The meeting is set for 2 o'clock at the
club house.

Ernest E. Hall of Portland, first vice
president of the state federation and
Mrs. D. O. Trexler of Portland, third

County Federation Meeting
Several members of the Salem Wom
an's club will attend the Marion Coun
ty Federation of Women's clubs meet
ing in Woodburn next Friday afternoon.
Woodburn groups acting as hostesses
will be the Woman's club, Junior Wom
an's club and Woman's Rural club.
Mrs. Robert Hutcheon of Salem, pres
ident of the County Federation, is to
preside. Mrs. Frederick Leupold is to
represent the Salem Woman's club pres
ident, Mrs. Howard Hunsaker, at the
meeting. She will give the reports of
the Salem Woman club's.
Also going from Salem will be Mrs.
Frank Marshall, Mrs. Earl Andresen,
Mrs. W. W. McKinney, Mrs. Charles E.

Opening Monday In the Elfstrom art
galleries will be a showing of the pic
tures of Miss Connie Fowler, formerly
of Salem and now on the faculty of Al
bion college in Michigan. The showing
will be up until May 9.
All of the paintings in this show have
been done since June of 1950.
Miss Fowler has had her work exhibit
ed In a number of midwest galleries, in
cluding Detroit Art institute, Grand Ra
pids Art museum, University of Michi
gan, etc., also her work was displayed In
the National Academy of Design in New
York City.
In past years, Miss Fowler has receiv
ed awards in wood engravings and wa
ter colors. Last year, she had a show
of 70 wood engravings, oils and water
colors in the Civic auditorium at Gary,
Indiana, where she was the principal
speaker at the North Indiana Art Edu
cation conference. Recently, Miss
Fowler was appointed to the board of
consultants for the Michigan State Art
Education association.
Members of Salem club of Zonta In
ternational will meet next Thursday
evening at the home of Miss Nellie
Schwab, dessert to be at 7:30 o'clock
with Mrs. Harold Larsen and Miss Janet
Bower as co-hostesses.
At the business meeting, new officeri
are to be elected.

In Everett, Wash., this week-end are
five members of Salem Zonta club, Miss
Genevieve Morgan, who is the district
governor for Zonta clubs; Miss Lena
Belle Tartar, local club president; Miss
Dorothy Pearce, district secretary; Dr.
Helen Pearce and Mrs. Harry W. Scott.
Dr. Pearce as chairman will give a
report on the international resolutions
committee, also on the international
president's message; and Mrs. Scott ia
to give a talk on club finances.
Woodburn Miss Winona Breunlnger,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Breu
nlnger of Woodburn, was wed to Douglas
Hoppe, son of Mrs. Margaret Hoppe of
Seattle, March 17 at 8 o'clock in the eve
ning at the Seaview Methodist church in
Seattle.
The bride wore a white satin wedding
gown with ovcrskirt of net which ex
tended into a train. A close fitting satin
cap held the fingertip length veil in
place and she carried a bouquet of white
carnations.
Mrs. Harold Livesay of Woodburn, sis
ter of the bride, was matron of honor
gowned in green taffeta and wearing a
green net headpiece. She carried a nose
gay of yellow roses and daffodils.
Miss Willa Jan Reese, niece of the
bridegroom, was flower girl. She wore
a gown of yellow net and carried a nose
gay of lavender daisies.
Charles Hoppe was best man for his
brother and ushers were Marvin Nore
lius and Philip Horrocks.
A reception was held in the church
following the ceremony. Serving were
Misses Ruth DcGabriele, Lorraine Bol
long, and Tiani Dudley. Miss Arlene Ro
senfield passed the guest book.
Mr. and Mrs. Hoppe are at home In
their houseboat on Portage bay at Seattle.
District No. 3, Oregon State Nurses
association, announces that Mrs. Harold
Singleton of the American Cancer so
ciety will conduct an institute between
9 a.m .and 5 p.m, Wednesday, April 25,
at the treatment building at the Oregon
State hospital. The Blinkley irrigation
technique will be discussed and demon
strated as well as other features in care
and treatment of cancer. The morning
session Is open to all nursing personnel
but the afternoon session is open only
to registered nurses of the OSNA district.
