Mrs. Pickett Feted
Mrs. Bruce Pickett of Salem,
district governor of Alpha Phi
sorority, is to be honored at a
tea for which the University of
Oregon chapter of the group is
to entertain at Eugene on Tues
day, November 28.
Mrs. Pickett is an alumna of
the university chapter as is her
daughter, Miss Jocelyn Davis.
The tea will be given at the
chapter house at Eugene. Mrs.
Pickett recently returned from
visits to the University of
Washington and University of
British Columbia chapters of the
sorority.
Unit Honors
District Officer
Capital unit No. 9, American
Legion auxiliary, met at the
Woman's club Monday evening
for a short business meeting
and social hour honoring the dis
trict president, Mrs. Bert A.
Walker.
Mrs. Anson B. Ingles report
ed that the membership tree is
nearly full and Mrs. Walter
Spauldlng announced that there
is to be an officers party De-
cember IS. A rummage sale is
planned by Mrs. J. H. Gordon,
finance chairman, for December
11 and 12 at the old Stevens and
Sons building. She said that chil
dren's clothes are especially
needed.
Five delegates and alternates
were elected by the unit to at-
tend the Marion county council
meeting the first of the new
year.
Members are to bring gifts to
the next meeting, December 4,
for the Veterans hospital in
Portland for Christmas. The
gifts will be put on display at
the meeting before being sent
to Portland.
Announcement was made that
the sewing circle, under the
chairmanship of Mrs. Rose Hab
ernlcht, will meet at the home
of Mrs. E. A. Linden, 1795 Fir, I
Thursday, November 30, for an
all-day meeting.
A program followed the bus
iness session with the post tak
ing part. Mrs. Walker spoke and
Mrs. Edith Brown gave two
humorous readings. Ronald Cra
ven sang, accompanied by Mrs.
Craven.
Refreshments were served by
the hostess and publicity com
mittees with Mrs. James H.
Turnbull and Mrs. T. E. Bork
man pouring.
GUESTS at the home of Mrs.
A. B. McKillop over the week
end have been Mr. and Mrs. A.
K. Sheely, son-in-law and daugh
ter of Mrs. McKillop from Spok
ane. While here the Sheeleys
also have been visiting a brother-
in-law and sister of Mrs. Sheely,
Mr. and Mrs. Robert DeArmond.
The visitors are leaving Wed
nesday to return to Spokane for
Thanksgiving.

The group voted to alternate
its meetings, one as an afternoon
one, the other as an evening one.
Plan Christmas Party
Jaycee-Ettes met at the home
of Mrs. Robert Upson Monday
evening to make plans for a
Christmas party and gift ex
change December 18. Members
and their guests are to be en
tertained at the party.

Many Attend Tea
A capacity crowd attended the
'harvest home tea" at the Meth
odist Old People's home Friday
afternoon. Many gifts were given
the home including a flag from
the Salem chapter of Daughters
of American Revolution and two
enlarged framed pictures from
Mrs. A. A. Underhill, a guest
in the home. Mrs. Underhill
took the pictures in 1912 and
1913 of the first home and the
first 10 members.
The tea table centerpiece of
bronze and yellow chrysanthey-
mums was given by Jary Florists.
The tea, which is an annual
affair, was sponsored by the
board of managers made up of
women from the four Methodist
churches in Salem.

their November meeting. Miss
Renska Swart was hostess.

guests at the meeting. Lloyd
Smith gave a humorous reading
in Norse dialect.
The hostess carried out the
patriotic theme commemorating
the landing of the Pilgrims in
the new world in refreshments
and decorations.

Kimsey-Steward
Sheridan Miss Imogene
Steward, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Steward of Sheri
dan, and Pfc. Percy I. Kimsey
of Struttgart, Arkansas, were
married last week in California.
Mr. Kimsey is awaiting orders
to be shipped to Korea, where
he has served before, along with
service in Japan. Mrs. Kimsey
was graduated in 1947 from the
Sheridan high school, and has
been employed at Meier and
Franks in Portland. She will
stay in California with an aunt
until Mr. Kimsey is shipped out

Holiday Tea
In December
Kappa Kappa Gamma alum
nae in meeting Monday evening
discussed plans for their an
nual holiday time tea given each
December to honor girla In the
active chapters, who will be
home for Christmas, and their
mothers. Date and place for the
tea will be announced later. Mrs.
Wallace S. Wharton is general
chairman for the event.
The Monday meeting of the
alumnae was at the home of Mrs.
Daniel J. Fry with Mrs. Donald
L. Rasmussen, Miss Margaret
Wagner and Mrs. Roger Schnell
as co-hostesses. As special enter
tainment, Mr. Fry showed pic
tures of the trip he and Mrs. Fry
made to Africa.

St. Anne's Plans
Part in Bazaar
Final plans for their part in
the all-church bazaar, slated for
Wednesday, November 29, were
discussed by members of St.
Anne's guild of St. Paul's Epis
copal church at their meeting
Monday afternoon at the home
of Mrs. Floyd W. Shepard.
Mrs. Louis Gerlinger is chair
man 'from St. Anne's for the
bazaar and asked that members
have their articles at the parish
house by 9 o clock that morning.
The bazaar opens at 11 o'clock
and is put on by all eight wom
en's organizations in the church.
Mrs. A. D. Woodmansee, co
ordinator tor the bazaar, also
discussed plans for the event.
Guests at the meeting Mon
day included Mrs. Tom Holman,
Mrs. Richard Rawlinson, and
the Rev. and Mrs. George H.
Swift, and among former mem
bers attending was Mrs. W. W.
Baum. The Rev. Mr. Swift
talked on work and plans in the
church.
Mrs. Paul Lardon, guild pres
ident, announced Mrs. Arthur
Knox, Mrs. George Wellcr, Mrs.
William H. Burghardt and Mrs.
Vernon Perry had been named
as a ways and means committee
to work out plans for projects.
The guild holds no meeting in
December, the next event to be
in January. Hostesses with Mrs.
Shepard, Monday, were Mrs.
William Busick, Mrs. Weller,
Mrs. Gerlinger, Mrs. A. L,
Adolphson, Mrs. Homer L. Gou-
let, Jr., Mrs. Raymond Busick.

The Friendly Neighbors Gar
den club met at the home of
Mrs. R. C. Genre, Thursday ev
ening. Ten members answered

Blundell, president, presiding at
the business meeting.
The club decided on a theme
to be used for their part in the
Christmas Greens show.
Plans were made for the an
nual Christmas dinner and par
ty to be given December 14 at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. L.

staged December 8 and 9 at the
