UN Scene Told
Luncheon Club
Monmouth At the recent
luncheon club session which was
held in the Monmouth hotel,
Dean Anderson, high school re
lations man with the state board
of higher education, was a vis
itor. He gave a report of at
tending several United Nations
sessions while at the national
Congress of Parents and Teach
ers, pointing out that he believes
there is a greatly increased feel
ing of optimism in the United
Nations since the Korean affair
demonstrated that the UN could
and would act against an aggres
sor. A brief discussion was given
by President Roben J. Maaske
of OCE on the measure giving
state credit for higher education
bonds which will be voted on in
the coming election. He ex
plained that the state board had
in the -cast issued a number of
series of revenue bonds In the
construction of buildings at the
various state colleges. Since
these bonds draw a higher inter
est rate than general obligation
bonds, the measure is intended
to permit the refunding of these
revenue bonds with general ob
ligation bonds so that the state
may save the difference In in
terest. It Is a sum estimated at
more than a million dollars on
the outstanding bonds. He rec
ommended a 302 Yes vote.
The other measures on the
ballot are to be considered at
the other meetings in the month.
