German Steel
Trusts Busted

(Jp) The Allied high commission
decreed today that Germany's
six big steel trusts be broken
up into small and completely
independent companies. The gi
ant trusts ruled production ev
er since the early days of Adolf
Hityer s third reich.
An allied statement said the
deconcentration of the old con
cerns termed a "liquidation,, of
the big trusts was to march
hand in hand with reorganiza
tion plans of the German coal
and steel industry now taking
shape. '
The statement said factory
operations will be neither in
terrupted nor discontinued dur
ing the liquidation process. The
six huge trusts, which furnish
ed Hitler steel for his war ma
chine were ordered placed in
liquidation at the close of bus
iness Sept. 30.
The action came on the heels
of a similar order this month
to break up I. G. Farben, Ger
many's chemical empire.
The allied decree, signed Sept.
14 and made effective on publi
cation today, did not disclose the
size or number of smaller com
panies which will be left from
the liquidation of the big six
steel trusts.
