Washington, Aug. 17 (P) The bureau of the census In a pre
liminary report gave Oregon 1,512,100 residents, a gain of 38.8
per cent over the 1940 census.
Revisions might change the figures somewhat.

levied In the 1950-51 fiscal year,
the state tax commission 6a id
today.
The commission said that,
along with other sources, in
come taxes once more are
enough to meet Oregon's total
general fund requirements of
$71,818,704.81.
The actual balance in the
corporation excise tax account
on hand July 1, 1950, totaled $6,
897,157.22. The beginning bal
ance on July 1, 1949, was $19,-
235,174.88.
The property tax reduction ac
count had an actual balance on
hand last July 1 of $36,286,
173.99, compared with $38,572,-

500 Families in
Macedonia Interned
Belgrade, Yugoslavia, Aug. 17
VP) The official Yugoslav news
agency Tanjug said today about
500 families were interned in
the Bulgarian area of Macedonia
in the first 10 days of this month.
Tanjug did not give any reason
for the interment but said the
action disclosed the Bulgarian
governments attitude toward
the desires of the Macedonian
people for national liberty.

Tests to Create
Human Giants
Are Revealed
Stockholm, Sweden, Aug. 17
(U.fi) Experiments that may lead
to a race of human giants twice
the size of present man were
disclosed today by three Swed
ish scientists.
After three years of tests, the
scientists have produced rabbits
twice the size of their parents.
The scientists now are experi
menting on pigs.
The three scientists told a
press conference that they had
succeeded In increasing the

Rebels Killed
Manila, Aug. 17 (ff) Seven
Hukbalahaps were killed and 18
wounded in a Philippines Amy
raid on a hideout of the peasant
rebels in Bataan province early
today. The army said a large
quantity of weapons and ammu
nition was taken.
