August P. Risser
Passes in Dallas
Dallas August P. Risser, 65,
prominent banker and resident
of Dallas for the past 59 years,
died Tuesday afternoon, July 25,
of a self-inflicted bullet wound.
Despondent since a serious Ill
ness early this year necessitated
his retirement from the position
of cashier at the Dallas City
HanK, doctor's treatment had ap
parently failed.
Risser had been a banker for
the past 43 years, having been
employed by the Dallas National
Bank, founded by the late Ralph
E. Williams. He was first em
ployed in 1907 and stayed with
the firm until its purchase by
the Dallas City Bank in 1934.
Risser had been cashier since the
late F. J. Craven was appointed
executive vice president.
Active in civic affairs all his
life, Risser was a former mayor
of Dallas, had served as council
man for several terms, was a
past fire chief, a member of the
water commission, member of
the library board, and one-time
treasurer of the Chamber of
Commerce.
Born April 14, 1885, at Wis-
ner, Neb., the son of Christian
and Barbara Risser, he came to
Dallas at the age of 6 in 1891
where his father operated as a
gunsmith. Risser's education
was completed at Dallas grade
school, LaCreole Academy and
the old Dallas college.
On November 18, 1916, he
married M. Lena Bobbitt who
survives him as do a sister, Mrs.
Deva Janzen of Newport, a
nephew and three nieces.
Funeral announcements will
be made later from Henkle and
Bollman funeral home.

nual Boys' Nation and S3 other

on President Truman today.
Jefferson, 18, nominee .of the

nual citizenship project sponsor
ed by the American Legion, was
elected last night over "Nation
alist" candidate Donald J.
Schanz, 16, of Buffalo, N. Y. The
vote was 84 to 32.
By the same vote Thomas M.
Rutter, 17, Munshall, Pa., the
'Federalist" nominee for vice
president, was elected over Rod
ney Block, 17, Orlando, Fla.
The victorious "Federalist'
party included In its platform de
mands for universal military
training, tighter control of sub
versive activities, admission of
Alaska and Hawaii as states and
for more forceful conservation
of natural resources. It opposed
federal aid to education and the
so-called Brannan farm plan.

Yellowstone Whirl Fabulous Yellowstone has everything
even a twister. Harold R. Boyd, northwest editor of the Spo
kane Daily Chronicle, vacationing near Macks Inn. Idaho,
saw a strange cloud (top) over Yellowstone Park, a few miles
to the northeast, and began clicking his "drugstore" camera
to record the birth, full bloom (center) and fadeaway of a
baby tornado. No damage was reported after the twister,
which was accompanied by rain and hail. (AP Wirephoto)
