Nurserymen Come Up With
70 Ways to Chill or Warm Up

Washington, July 10 U.R There are many ways to keep cool
such as gulping a Tom Collins, air-cooling the house or having
Mama make you a breeze with a palm leaf.
But the American Association of Nurserymen has come up
with 10 new ways. Not only ways to chill off in summer, but
how to warm up in winter.
The association starts off witn
a sort of weather report, which
says:
"In many areas of the coun
try, the coldest winds come from
the north, northeast, and north
west. In the summer, they usual
ly come from the west, south
west, and south."
From there on, the association
report is mostly nursery. About
plants, that is.
You can, it says, "curve plant"
your evergreen and shrubs in the
form of a high hedge. Then, the
cold breath of winter from the
north will skirt around the house
and leave you snug and warm.
Even snve fuel, maybe.

association says, "can save a lot

ecutive director of the commit
tee on geo-physics and geogra
phy of the U.S. research and de
velopment board, conducted

of 32 degrees and a 12-mile wind
than it is for zero and a three
mile wind.
In a state experiment station
test of a windbreak, It was learn

22.0 percent.

tries met In a high-celling room
on the elm-shaded University of
loronto campus today In a scene
reminiscent of the United Na
tions general assembly.
They composed the central
committee of the world council
of churches, founded at Am
sterdam in 1948. The 90 mem
Irers represent about 160,000,000
church members of all major
Christian confessions except Ro
man Catholicism.
The committee, empowered to
act for t he council's nssombly, is
studying religious liberty and
other world-wide religious prob
loins. The assembly meets every
five years.
In the chair sat the Rt. Rev.
Kennedy Allen Bell, lord bishop
of Chichester, Eng. Earlier he
had gravely told the delegates
that the Korean war "forms the
tragic background of our meet
ing and calls us all to prayer and
thought and action."
