Divorce Action
Hollywood, April 20 (U.R) In
grid Bergman won her bitter
trans-Atlantic light today to
have Dr. Peter Lindstrom give
her joint legal custody of their
12-year-old daughter, Pia.
The brain surgeon, who once
threatened to drag Miss Berg
man through the courts as an
"unfit and improper person" to
have full custody of the little
girl, changed his mind and
agreed yesterday to share her
with her mother.
But he's determined to divorce
the beauteous movie queen "im
mediately" Greg Bautzcr, Miss Bergman's
attorney, said she will not con
test the suit.
His suit will hurry up Miss
Bergman's wedding to Italian
Film Director Roberto Rossclli
ni, the father of her two-months-old
son and the man who wooed
her away from her husband,
child, and Hollywood career.
Meanwhile, friends of the ac
tress said, she is making plans to
come here in the next two
months to be with Pia. If she
wants, she can take the little
girl to Rome with her for a va
cation. "That's the point we fought
hardest for," Bautzer said. "She
can take her any place she wants
to without asking anybody's
permission."
The slim, blonde child will
live with Lindstrom during the
school year. Miss Bergman's
turn comes during the first half
of her summer vacation. Lind
Itrom gets her for the last half.
He and Pia will continue to
live in Miss Bergman's hillside
mansion and he will provide for
her physical needs while her
mother is out of the country.
Money for her school books,
clothes, food, and toys will
come from a joint fund to which
both he and Miss Bergman will
contribute.
The agreement also provides
for a friendly settlement of a
joint $250,000 estate.
Sleeping Car Service
Fails to Pay Its Way
Standard Pullman sleeping
car, which has been operated on
an overnight schedule between
Portland and Coos Bay, will be
discontinued effective April 29
from Portland and April 30
from Coos Bay, due to lack of
patronage, according to J. H.
Pruett, Jr., general passenger
agent, Southern Pacific com
pany, Portland.
The car has been carried on
passenger trains Nos. 329-334
and 333-330, leaving Portland
and Willamette valley cities
daily in the evening, arriving in
Coos Bay next morning with
similar overnight service from
Coos Bay to Portland.
Chair car service operated on
the same trains will be retained,
Pratt said.
