OBITU ARY John D. Storey Independence John D. Storey was born In Canada on March 18, 1873, and died in Snlcm on February 3, 1950, at the age of 76 year. 10 months and 15 days. When he was four years old he moved to Washington county where he grew up on his father's farm. He worked at farm labor for a number of years and later did railroad work. He was united In mar riage to Alice Heltzel at Forrest Grove in 1898. To this union two children were born. Around 1905 they moved to Stella, Wash., where he was engaged In build tng railroads and logging roads. Later they purchased a dairy farm which ther operated until 1918. They bought a farm two miles south of Independence and resided there until 1946 when they moved Into Independence. He Is survived by his iwo children, Lyle D. Btorey and Mrs. Oeorge Stapleton. both of Independence: one brother, Dave Storey of Forrest Grove: one sister, Mrs. Sara Davis of Wenatchee. Wash.: four grandchildren and many friends. Services were held from the Walter L. Smith mortuary Wednes day at 2 p.m. with Rev John Hood offi ciating. Final rites were held at the Bel crest Memorl' park In Salem. He was born at Fox Valley, August 26, 1888 and had spent his entire life In this community, with the exception of a period of time spent at Raymond, Wash, employed in a logging camp.
