Grains Slump In Dull Trade Chicago, Jan. 27 W) Grains slumped toward the close on the board of trade today, winding up a dull day which saw few price changes. During early dealings wheat showed a slight amount of strength while corn eased. But wheat also backed down late in the day. On both the upside and downside trading went on a a slow pace. Wheat closed lower, March $2.17'A, corn was ys- lower, March $1.28, oats were unchanged to V4 lower, May 68y4, rye was 4-1 lower, May $1.34 'A-, soybeans were 114 lower to higher, March $2.32-$2.32y4, and lard was 3 cents lower to 3 cents a hundred pounds higher, March $10.60. Stocks Advance All Along Line New York, Jan. 27 VP) Buy ing interest in steel shares help ed to lift stock prices all along the line today. The advance was slow in get ting started and never did pick up much momentum. A good majority of leaders, though, showed gains running from frac tions to around a point. Activity increased moderately when a definite forward trend shaped up. Turnover for the full session approached 1,300,000 shares. Radio-Television issues en joyed a flurry of popularity for a while and a couple of gold stocks did fairly well, Bethlehem Steel lost Vi point during the morning, despite the best earnings report for 1949 in the company's history. Later, however, the stock crossed to the plus side. U. S. Steel, Youngs town Sheet and Jones & Laugh lin also improved.
