Polk County Clerk Issues
Marriage License to Self
Dallas, Jan. 26 Several hundreds of marriage licenses have
been Issued in the office of Edna M. Pitzer, Polk county clerk,
but last week was the first time that one was issued to Edna
M. Piizer,
The clerk was married Saturday in a quiet ceremony to Bruce
M. Alien of Prineville with Rev.'

ficiating. Only attendants were

Jtfr,. -Allen's son by a former
marriage, Ronnie.
The groom is salesman for
the Prinevllle Machine and Sup
ply company, Prineville, a com
pany that is affiliated with the
' Gerlinger Carrier company of
Dallas. He worked for the pre
decessor of the carrier company,
Dallas Machine and Locomotive
Works, here many years ago.
Mrs. Allen, who has been In
the clerk's office as deputy and
ciferk since 192a, has not made
a definite decision about resign
ing her position. Eventually, she
plans to join her husband at
Prineville where they will make
their home.
She has three years more to
serve on her present term.
Should she leave before It ex
pires, the county court will have
the duty of appointing a suc
cessor. Judge Jack Hayer said
Tt Wednesday that the court has no
candidates In mind.
Mrs. Allen first entered the
clerk's office under Hugh Black,
and continued in the office when
Carl Graves was elected clerk
In 1932. Later she was ap
pointed chief clerk in 1938 and
served in that capacity until
Graves resigned late in 1942.
Mrs Allen became the first wom
an clerk ever to serve Polk
county on January 1, 1943, when
she was appointed by the coun
ty court. Since that time she
has been elected to the posi
tion and re-elected in 1948.
They will discuss insect and pro
cessing problems in the cherry
industry.
The meeting has been arrang
ed by N. John Hansen and D. L.
Rasmussen, county extension
agents in Polk and Marion coun
ties, respectively.
Cherry Virus Disease
Will Get Discussion
The cherry virus disease prob
lem in Oregon and the Pacific
northwest will be discussed by
Plant Pathology Specialist A. P.
Steenland from Oregon State
college at the meeting of the
Marion-Polk county cherry
growers on Friday, January 27
in Salem. Steenland's illustrated
talk is scheduled for 1:30 p. m.
in the Dairy Co-op building,
2135 Fairgrounds road.
Other featured speakers will
be Robert W. Every.O.S.C. en
tomology specialist, and Robert
W. Shinn, manager of the Willa
mette Cherry Growers, Salem.
