of gold ever made by air, is the
property of the government of
Siam. It was insured for $45,-
000,000.
Each plane carried a special
crew of six, all armed, and fol
lowed alternating routes, he
said. When the planes landed for
refueling, armed sentries guard
ed them.
The shipments began early
this week from various places in
Japan it was revealed.

purchase of timber designated for cut
ting on the Joseph Apperson allotment
No. GR-7. described as SE4 NE4 Sec. 5. T
6 S. R 7 W, W.M., 40 acres, Grande Ronde
Indian Reservation, Yamhill County, es
timated to be 370 M.ft. B.M. of Douglas
fir and 50 M.ft. of White fir. Volumes
are estimated and not guaranteed. The
minimum acceptable bid for the timber
shall not be less than 35.00 per M. ft. for
the Douglas lir and 14.00 per M.it. lor
White lir. The timber Is to be sold on
log scale and the Scrlbner Decimal C
scale rule will be used. The purchaser will
be required to pay the cost of scaling
the timber cut, to certify that all tim
ber cut and removed from the contract
area has been scaled and reported to the
Regional Representative of the Grand
Ronde-Sllets Administration, to engage
the services of a recognized and accept
able scaling bureau, and to agree to lur-
ntsh the Regional Representative with two
copies of each and every scale report made
by such bureau, certified by the scaling
bureau and the purchaser. A certified
check on a solvent bank, made payable to
the Treasurer of the United States, In the
amount of twenty per cent of the esti
mated value of the timber at the bid prlco
on this allotment must accompany the
bid. The deposit will be returned to the
unsuccesslui bidders. The deposit of the
successful bidder will be retained as
liquidated damages if the bidder falls to
execute a contract within the thirty days
of notice of acceptance of his bid, but
otherwise will be applied as the Initial
deposit on stumpage. In addition, within
30 days of approval of the contract and
prior to any cutting, the purchaser must
deposit with the Regional Representative
cash In the amount of twenty per cent
oi tne estimated value oi tne timber at
tne bid price. In lieu of bond, to guaran
tee full performance under the terms of
the contract. The contract will specify the
employment of competent Indian labor If
available, and that all timber covered by
the contract must be cut and removed
from the allotment within three years of
the date of approval of the contract. The
right to waive technical defects and to
reject anr and all bids is reserved. For
