All Grains
Move Upward
Chicago, Nov. 19 W) All
grains moved upward in heavy
dealings on the board of trade
today, paced by corn. The yel
low cereal naa gains extending
to 2 cents at times. Deferred
contracts scored new seasonal
highs.
Strength of corn was tied in
with export demand for this
grain. It was reflected also in
the spot market where No. 2
yellow corn sold at a discount
of 2 to 2"i cents compared with
the December delivery. Yester
day the discount was 3 to 3',j
cents.
Other grains mostly followed
the leadership of corn. Some in
flationary sentiment appeared to
be present in the pits. Dealings
became quite active toward the
close as the demand met selling
orders from traders evening up
for the weekend holiday.
Wheat closed Mi-H higher,
December sz.uA-4, corn was
1 to higher, December
$1.24 - '4 , oats were y lower to
i higher, December 75V4-75,
rye was i-1V4 higher, Decem
ber $1.34', ',-$1.34, soybeans were
1 to 1 y. higher, November
$2.24., and lard was 5 to 7 cents
a hundred pounds higher, De
cember $10.32.

Washington. Nov. 19 (IP) The

as price-support loans on such
products as corn, wheat, tobacco,
cotton, and other grains.
The remaining $1,638,000,000
was spent for purchase of com

operations.
Price support programs are fi

Reapportionment on Federal
Plan Favored by County Men
Portland, Nov. 19 W Oregon's county officials like the ideal
of giving each county one state senator, and a number of state;
representatives based on the county's population. ',
That plan, proposed by State Rep. Giles rrencn or. moro, was
endorsed by the Association of Oregon Counties at its convention
vesterdav.
It would follow the same pat
tern used in the United States
congress. At present, both the
state senate and the state house
of representatives are appor
tioned on a population basis.
The county judges and com
missioners elected Judge T. A.
Power of Jefferson county as
president. Judge D. N. Busen
bark of Douglas county was
elected vice president, and Mar
ion county commissioner Roy J.
Rice was reelected . secretary
treasurer. The convention suggested that
charitable and religious organi
sations which operate business
in competition with private en
terprise be subject to taxation.
That was one of the sources
of new revenue proposed to aug
ment the scarce county Income.
Another was through licens
ing outdoor theaters and night
clubs. The state would have to
pass a law authorizing the coun
ties to license such establish
ments.
The county officials also rec-
ommended a constitutional
amendment which would not in
elude welfare budgets in the 6
per cent tax limitation.
Oregon's county treasurers,
who met here at the same time,
demonstrated their feminine loy
alty by electing all women of
ficers. Twenty of the 36 treas
urers are women.
Mrs. E. T. Fairchild, Des
chutes county, was elected pres
ident; Mrs. T. H. Mosgrove.
Umatilla county, vice-president;
and Mrs. Alice Davidson, Jo
sephine county, secretary-treas
urer.
