Major Grains
In Even Courses
Chicago, August 29 VP) Ma
jor grains held to an even course
today while soybeans went
through a series of up-and-down
gyrations.
A reported advance in the gov
ernment buying price for cash
wheat and expectations of sales
of flour to the production and
marketing administration pro
vided support for the bread cer
eal. Reports of large-scale build
ing of bins on farms to store corn
aided that grain.
In active dealings, soybeans
moved over a 6 cent range. They
opened steady, advanced act,,
pie of cents, sank below the pre
vious close and then staged an
other rally toward the close.
Some speculative and invest
ment buying was attracted fol
lowing last week's sharp shake
out. Wheat closed S,i-1H higher,
September $2.01, corn was
1 V higher, September $1.25
Vt, oats were unchanged to Vt
higher September 67-67 V4,rye
was y to 1 cent lower, Septem
ber $1.41, soybeans were un
changed to 1 cent higher, November-
$2.33-2.33 Vt, and lard
was 32 cents lower to 5 cents a
hundred pounds higher, Septem
ber $11.95.
Stock Market
Slowly Declines
New York, Aug. 29 () A
slow decline in the stock mar
ket went unchecked today un
til losses of fractions to more
than a point wer? general
throughout the list.
The volume of trading con
tracted at a rate of about 650,-
000 shares, one of the slowest
days in a month.
In late trading the fall was
arrested, but prices on average
were at their lowest points of
the session.
The light selling pressure was
well distributed and no partic
ular group of stocks was under
fire.

Robeson Riot
Peeksklll, N.Y., Aug. 29 (U.
State police sought today the
assailants of 11 persons injured
in an anti-communist riot that
broke up a scheduled Paul Ro
beson concert Saturday night.
Detectives had lists of names
of persons reportedly involved
in the fist - fighting, stone and
bottle throwing between 300 to
400 war veterans and the 150
persons assembled to hear the
Negro baritone. However, no
one had been brought in for
questioning, troopers said.
Robeson, who never reached
the concert because the fighting
began before his arrival, de
manded yesterday an investiga
tion to determine who gives
orders" to the American Le
gion and Veterans of Foreign
Wars.
"I am not going to be fright
ened by any Legionnaires," he
said at press conference in New
York. "They had better be care
ful."
Robeson said state and federal
officials should look carefully
into the activities of the Legion,
VFW and Ku Klux Klan
Members of the Legion, VFW
and two other veterans organi
zations staged an anti-commun
ist demonstration near the pic
nic grove scene of the Saturday
night concert. The riot flared
before the concert got under way
and In the fighting that follow
ed, several automobiles were
damaged and overturned, and
11 persons Injured.

Arsonist Ralpl
Gets Year I-fare-
John Edward Ralph pleaded
guilty before Circuit JuHe
George R. Duncan Monday to
third degree arson in connection
with a flax fire at the State pri
son several months ago. He was
given a year's sentence. But thut
isn't all of it. It is to run conse
cutively after Ralph finishes out
12 years he has yet to do on a
robbery sentence. And there s
still more to follow. When he
came up here he was on parole
from San Quentin, Calif., also
on a robbery charge. With his
conviction here his parole there
was revoked so he'll be sent
back to San Quentin when he
gets all though here.
With Ralph's guilty plea, Dis
trict Attorney Stadter says this
is six out of the seven convicts
implicated in the flax plant fire
whose cases have been disposed
of, either by conviction or pleas
of guilt. Allan Brumfield, con
victed last week by a jury, will
be sentenced September 6. The
seventh man, John O. Pinson, is
still to be disposed of. He escap
ed a few months ago and is still
at large. His case will remain on
the docket to be disposed of
when and if he's caught.
