Stocks Decline Up to a Point New York, Aug. 19 VP) De clines of fractions to more than a point predominated in the stock market today. The market was moderately active on the decline with vol ume running at the rate of 900, 000 shares for the day. The downward price move ment developed after a highly mixed start with stocks moving narrowly. Only gold mining shares as a roup resisted the general trend. They added fractions to a point. Steels, motors, rails and cop pers all were lower. Oils were unchanged to lower. Richfield, however, was higher and showed a fair amount of activity at times. STOCKS By the Associated Press! The break-through oi previous resistance levels by soybeans yesterday led to a good deal of new buying in to day's session. Gains in soybeans ranged to around 3 cents at times. The market had to absorb heavy profit-taking, but it did this without giving up much ground. All grains weakened with corn showing the widest loss. September corn particularly showed an easier trend through out the session. Rains fell over night in parts of Iowa which have not had moisture for sev eral weeks, a development which traders said was favorable for improving crop prospects. Active wheat futures closed 1 'A - 1 ' lower, September $1.98V4-. July, in which trad ing started yesterday, was un changed. Corn ended Vi-l'A lower, September $1.21V-1i, oats were Mi 14. lower, Septem ber 65, rye was unchanged to 1 cent higher, September $1.43 Vi-'A. Soybeans were to 3 cents higher, November $2.45- 2 4514, and lard was 3 to 23 cents a hundred pounds lower, September $12.60.
