Lebanon Charles E. Soule. 81. died July
4 at the Lebanon home of his son. He was
born June 25, 1668 at Morrlstown. Minn.,
coining to Oregon 51 years ago and set
tling near Lacomb. Since 1920. he lived In
Lebanon. His wife preceded him In death
and his dnuRhier, Mrs. Alta Jenkins, re
cently passed sway but he Is survived by
two sons Orvllle and Clare, both .of Le
banon; a brother, Ira, and grandson. Mer
vln Jenkins, also 0 Lebanon. Funeral ser
vices were conducted Wednesday at the
Howe-Huston chapel, with Rev. Carl Ma
son officiating. Burial In the Masonic
cemetery.

after a long Illness. He had been a resi-
dent of this community for 38 years. ,
Mr. Benson was born June 6, 1877, at
Memphsi. Mo., the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Clayton Benson. On November 23, 1898,
lie was married lo Maudie May Crook at
Evans, Colo. They lived In Colorado until
1913, and moved to Oregon where they
lived 11ni.it 11)17. Then for four years
they lived In Idnho before coming to Dnl-
las in 1921. Surviving arc the wiaow.

Dallas and Francis O. of Salem; lo grand

Dallas David Melvin Meeker. 71. resi
dent of Dallas for 12 years, died at his
home on Dlmlck road, North Dallas, Mon
day after an Illness of several months.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 2
p.m. from the Henkle and Bollman chapel
and burial will be In the IOOF cemetery.
Falls City. Mr. Meeker was born In Jasper
county, Indiana, April 2, 1878, the son of
Charles H. and Margaret Meeker. The
family moved to Custer county, Nebraska,
In the spring of 1883, and the mother
died there. In I BOO t lie father moved his
family to Oregon and settled In Malheur
county on the Owyhee river. The father
died In 1802. Since that time. Meeker has
spent most of his life In Oregon with the
exception of a short period spent In Idaho
and Nevada. He was married on Sept. 6,
1913, to Miss Mabel Cook. Their only
child, a son, lost his life In the armed
service during World War II. Surviving is
the widow, as well as a granddaughter.

to San Francisco, and from there to Ore
gon by boat when three years of age. She
had resided in Wheatland district 47
years. Mrs. Klrkwood was a retired school
teacher, having taught In the state of
Washington and Yamhill county, Ore., 17
yera, following her graduation from Ore
gon State Normal school In 1895 fnow the
College of EducHtlon at Monmouth). She
- as united in marriage June 18, 1901, at
the larae Elkhorn ranch of her brother,
Aden Keen, nenr McMlnnvllte, Two chil
dren were born, Mr, Klrkwood died In
April, 1942. She lonk active Interest In

William Fudge
Bailst on William Fudge was born In
Ohio In 1872, came to Oregon In 1897,
built a blacksmith shop in Ballston, which
is still standing. He was married to Mary
Clark daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George
Clark, pioneers, Two sons, Laurence of
Seattle. Wash., and Vein of Bea verton,
survive him. Mrs. Fudge died in April,
1940. Funeral services were held In Macy's
undertaking parlors July 2 with burial In
the Evergreen cemetery. Pallbearers were

ington until 1929 when they moved to

was a member of the Christian church.

pital July 6, at the age of 78 years, sur
vived by wife. Alice W. Shoemaker of
Salem; three daughters. Miss Gertrude M.
Shoemaker of Mondombe, Belgian Congo,
Africa, Mrs. Merle H. Price of Seattle
and Mrs. D. W. Daniels of Lodl, Calif.;
and by six grandchildren and four great
grandchildren. Retired minister of the
Christian church and former pastor of
the Court Street Christian church of Sa
lem. Services will be held at the Howell
Edwards chapel Friday, July 8, at 3:30
P.m. with Rev. W. Harold Lyman, Rev.
Dudley Strain and Rev. C. F. Swander
officiating. Private concluding services at
Mt. Crest Mausoleum and Crematorium.
