Almost 100,000 Jews are al

likely to settle there. And the
rest of the Jews in Israel can ?o

Israel today.
Opinions differ sharply about
the state law, the educational
system and public life in gen

probably will be brought about
by a working compromise be
tween those who believe that
religious observance should be
written into the law of the land
and those who lean lo separa

The orthodox Jews in Israel
fear that the younger generation
may estrange itself more and
more from Jewish religious life.
As a matter of fact, this al

the younger settlers and factory
workers, and among the social
ist groups. For instance, the
leftist mapam party vehemently
opposes the word "God" being
written into the preamble of the
Israel constitution now being
drafted.
But Jews who want complete
identification of religious and
national legislation are a minor

Of the 120 delegates in the

Fourth of July
Celebrations
Observance of the double
holiday over the Fourth of July
will be made elsewhere as far
as Salem residents are concern
ed with coast resorts expecting
capacity crowds and reserva
tions needed for overnight visi
tation. Two kinds of major celebra
tions are being offered in the
district, the 14th annual St.
Paul rodeo at St. Paul July 2
to 4 with $7500 in prize money
awaiting winning top cow
hands. Shows will be offered
at the rodeo grounds Saturday
and Sunday nights with matin
at 1:30 o'clock Sunday and
Monday afternoon
The annual Albany limber
carnival, with most of the events
to be held at Waverly lake, will
be held July 2 to 4 with all
prize money to be offered at
the close of events Monday aft
ernoon, Title of world champions will
be at stake in several of the
events, which include log roll
ings, high climbing, jousting,
log bucking and chopping which
are attracting leaders of the
various classes from many
northwest and Pacific coast
points.
The only local attraction will
be the return appearance of the
Hell Drivers who are offering
a "carnival of thrills" at the
Stale Fair grounds starting at
2:30 o clock Monday afternoon.
Restaurants and service sta
tions will be practically the
only types of business carried
on over the week-end
State and local police are re
iterating a plea for caution to
holiday motorists over the long
week-end, particularly during
the return to the city after at
tending various celebrations and
resorts.
