Newport Makes Bid for Mail "Delivery Direct by Plane Coastal resident! are making every effort to obtain direct air mail delivery and passenger service at both Newport and Tula- 1 .iih h u'.tt rmii Alrwavi anxious to extend operations to those two points, and waiting only authority from the civil aeronautics bureau. Petitions have been forwarded to CAB, but little progress has been reported because of federal red tape. W. M. (Jack) Bartlett, direc tor, and other members of the state board of aeronautics, are doing what they can to promote the West Coast airways exten sion and are also interested in the aerial star route. He may have an opportunity to discuss the situation with the CAB while he is in Washington, D.C., next week. Such a route, they point out, would not only faciliate delivery of mail at coastal points but If the Davis airport at Mill City is maintained through the re moval of planned hazards in the form of a 90-foot power tower and electric line, fast communi cations could be established be tween the construction work on the Detroit dam, Salem and by transfer here, all points north and south.
