Says Pole Sent .
As Bomb Sov
Washington, May 11 () The
former military attache of the
Polish embassy here testified
today that a Polish representa
tive to the United Nations was
sent to this country "to do
espionage in the atomic bomb
field."
He called the Polish embassy
the center of a spying appa
ratus and subversive activities
directed against the United
States."
The statements were made to
a senate judiciary subcommittee
by Gen. Izydor Modelski. He
said he came to the United
States to "try to expose" what
he called a network of commu
nist activity here and has been
working closely with army in
telligence. The subcommittee is conduct
ing hearings on a bill by Senator
McCarran, Democrat of Nevada,
to tighten America's immigra
tion defenses.
Modelski identified Ignacy
Zlotowski as the Polish United
Nations representative he said
had been sent to this country to
carry on espionage in the atomic
bomb field.
Modelski said that during the
war, Zlotowski was in France
"with Curie Joliot, head of the
French atomic commission and
a prominent member of the
French communist party."
Modelski said that after the
collapse of France, Zlotowski
came to this country to became
a professor, and worked her as
a scientist for four years.
"Zlotowski was a prominent
communit and I have heard that
he was a great scientist," Model
ski went on.
Modelski said Zlotowski again
went to Poland about 1848, and
then the witness added:
"It was the job of Zlotowski,
whose real name was either
Goldberg or Goldman, to do
espionage in the atomic bomb
field because he was a physical
scientist and specialist in this
field."
