Hot Match Predicted in
VFWMainer Wednesday
Wednesday night's Veterans of Foreign Wars boxing program
scheduled for the armory, is considered by Matchmaker Tex Sal
keld to be the best of the winter series. Davey Ball of Bakers
field, Calif., a determined and aggressive leather tosser, is slated
to meet Dean Abney, Salem boxer, in the 10-round main event.
The pair met over the -eight-
round route a few weeks ago
with Abney getting the nod. The
decision aroused quite a rhubarb
and after considerable dicker
ing Salkeld got the pair to
agree to a longer contest.
Joe Pete, one of the most
popular boxers to crawl through
the ropes of the armory arena,
is slated to meet Brave Junior
of Redding, Cal., in the six
round semi-final. Pete decision-
ed Jimmy Ogden two weeks ago.
Ogden will return for a four
round engagement with Johnny
Hoffert.
Keller Wagner, local heavy
weight, will do battle with
Chuck Maxson of Corvallis,
while Don Doyle, Portland's
fast improving 140 pounder,
will face Lyle Wescott in the
second four rounder.
