Fighting Irishman Starts
One-Man War on Russians
Vienna, May S UP) A fighting army Irishman who started a
one-man war against Russia had a headache today. So did the
U. S. army.
And eight Russian officers had sore Jaws.
There was an unhappy feeling that the man who writes Rus
sia's notes of diplomatic protest'

Pfc. Edward J. Touhey, 19,
of Howard Beach, Long Island,
N.Y. six feet three inches tall,
230 pounds and the alleged cause
of It all was under observation
in a locked room at a Vienna
army hospital.
Touhey, according to Provost
Marshall CoJ. Willard K. Liebel,
had been drinking "but not
enough to cause all this disturb
ance." Liebel didn't specify how
much alcohol he thought it
should have required yesterday
to cause a man to:

the $130,840 total for permits
issued last month, and slightly
above the April, 1948, figure of

water tower to see what effect
if any the temblor had on it.
The engineers reported . today
that the 100-foot water tower is
six inches out of plumb, and
that's plumb serious. The slant
is definitely to the north. The
engineers aren't saying definite
ly that the leaning tower of
Hubbard resulted from' the
earthquake. But they are mak
ing further inspections, from
time to time, to determine
whether or not the tower will
go more radically off center.

Gives Concert
Albany Forest Grove's com
munity singing group, The Glee
men, gave a concert Wednesday
night before an Albany audi
ence in a Kiwanis sponsored
Memorial stadium benefit per
formance in the high school
auditorium.
The 40-man group had agreed
to sing in Albany at no cost,
other than transportation ex
penses, Ralph Senders, chair
man of the Kiwanis music com
mittee reported.
June 10 was set as official
donation' day for the coming
"day's pay" drive of the Me
morial stadium committee at a
meeting of the Memorial stadium
committee.
