ft r Four Killed in Aerial Mishaps (Br th United Prru) Four persons were killed and three Injured Tuesday In Ore gon aerial mishaps. Two died after a mid-air col lision between two light planes near Medford and three were Injured. Two army officers died in a crash near The Dalles when their L-16 observation craft was caught in a violent downdraft. Warrant Officer Wiliam P. Barkley, commander of the 1805th AACF squadron based at Medford, and an unidentified woman passenger died after the Medford collision. The tail of their Cessna was knifed off when struck by a forest service craft carrying three passengers. The forest service ship glided a few miles struck a power line and crashed into a barn. Medford's north west district suffered a one-hour power blackout after the pow er line snapped. Cal Ferris, San Francisco for ester and pilot, was hospitalized along with passengers, Mel Mis sail, Santa Barbara, and Tom BigloWj Yreka, Calif., the most seriously hurt. An eyewitness said the Cess na appeared to bank into the path of the forester's plane and aft er the mishap plumeted straight to the ground. Pilot 1st Lt. Morris C. Lewis. Ft. Lewis, Wash., and Warrant Officer Otto H. Christiansen, 41, Hanover. Pa., died in The Dalles crash. Elks Arrange for Mother's Day Event Guy N. Hickok, manager of the Salem branch of the First National Bank of Portland, will be the speaker at a public meet ing of the Elks lodge Thursday night when Mother's day will be observed with a special pro gram. A special ritual will be put on by the lodge officers, led by Exalted Ruler Gilbert Wynkoop The new Elks chorus will sing, and flowers will be presented to the oldest and the youngest mothers present and to the mother having the most chil dren. The program committee is Harlan Judd, chairman: Wesley E. Stewart, Jr., John Graham, Max Scriber an-f Al Finn and wildfloweri. Newberg Site of Hi Student Meet Bend, May 4 M High School Council association studcnls con cluded their fourth annual con vention yesterday after select ing Newberg for their 1950 meeting site. Some 400 student council of ficers and their faculty advisors from 70 Oregon schools partici pated in the two-day session. Milton Kruger, Newberg, was elected president of the associa tion, succeeding Don Benning, Bend. The annual banquet was directed by Tom Niebergall, president-elect of the Bend Student body.
