First Million-Dollar Levy Stays Within Limitation The Marion county budget committee, closing a three-day ses sion late Thursday, fulfilled its promise to cut an inflated bud get down to the 6 per cent limit size, coming up with a fi nal levy of approximately $1,020,000. This is the country's first million-dollar levy. Added to this is $200,000 for courthouse con- atruction, last of three such levies voted by the people. All told county costs are around $3,000,000, the balance being taken up by revenues anticipat ed. While cutting off estimates of over $155,000 to get down to its 6 per cent quota, the committee also made provision for a $10 a month wage increase across the board for all non-elective employes, upped mileage pro visions for privately owned cars on county business from 5 to 6 cents a mile; gave two extra clerks for the hard worked tax collection department; ordered an extra full time deputy sheriff for the Detroit-Idanha area as well as boosting the constable in that district to a full time job on full time pay. Salaries of three of the justices of the peace were raised by $600 a year each. The county welfare budget, a mandatory item fixed by the state, was increased from $211, 106 to $234,478. An addition was made to the predatory ani mal control fund which was upped from $1340 to $1600 and the budget also includes a pro vision of $10,000 for a proposed new garbage disposal site in south Marion county. It is ex pected $5000 of this will come back to the county from sale of part of the land. Provision also was made for a $25,000 fund, something in the nature of a revolving fund, to take care of a new legisla tive act which allows improve ment of dedicated roads at ex pense of abutting property own ers. This fund will provide In itial cost for the improvement which will be repaid in taxes over fixed periods. The com mittee refused a request for an additional home demonstration agent, In making provision to bring the budget within the limit the estimate for county's share of gasoline and motor taxes was raised from $325,000 to $410 000 which will be cared for by new legislation and market road estimated exppenditures were cut from $185,000 to $159,000 Total revenues outside of the levy were estimated at $1,393, 888. Various minor cuts were made In requested appropria tions. It is expected public hearing on the budget will be held some time in June. WIIXETT f the Capital Oroi it era Migraine is probably tbe most distres.iinfi of all typos of head aches because the patinnt knows that one attack foretells another. These attacks usually occur at regular intervals but vary with the individual from a few days apart to several months. Pain is often limited to one side of the head, and most migraine vic tims also experience some Intes tinal upset. If you suffer from migraine headaches it is important that you have the advlre of a doctor. He will explain the importance of a regiilnr physical routine, free from unnecessary emotional strain, Your doctor will also prescribe whatever medication he believes may help you. Let a conscientious pharmacist fill that prescription!
