10 Capital Journal, Salem, Nazarenes to Convene Here The annual Oregon district assembly of the Church of the Nazarene will convene in the local church, 13th and Center streets Wednesday, May 4 Church officials, headed by Samuel Young, general super- intendent of Boston, Mass. will be featured during the confer ence. Dr. Weaver M. Hess former pastor of the local con gregation and present district superintendent in Oregon, will direct the affairs of the meeting Governor Douglas M. McKay will delcome the some 300 dele gates at 9 o'clock the morning of May 4. Hev. George Taylorson of Spokane will deliver the mes sages Wednesday and Thursday nights. He will appear before the Hollywood Lions club Wed nesday noon, speaking on the subject "Communism at Our Door." The final session Friday night will include the ceremony of ordaining candidates for the ministry and an address by Dr. Young. Dr. Young, a Scotch born preacher and a former col lege president, will remain in Salem to speak Sunday morn ing and evening, May 8. May 2 and 3, preceding the assembly, the Women's For eign Missionary Society of the district will convene with Rev. Don Tucker of British Hondur as as principal speaker. Mrs Weaver M. Hess of Clackamas, will open the missionary meet ing at 2:30 Monday afternoon A banquet is scheduled for 7 o'clock Monday night at the chamber of commerce when Rev. Auburn Mothers club met at the school house Friday meeting. At the business meet - ing conducted by the president, Mrs. Loran Richey, three were named for the committee which will arrange for the well-baby clinic to be held at Swegle school Wednesday, May 4. Serving will be Mrs. Sidney Hoffman, Mrs. Harold Bressler and Mrs. Orval Prunk. Mrs George Starr, Mrs. Winter and Mrs. Loran Richey will serve on the committee arranging the May tea for mothers of children who will be In school for the first time in the fall. Mrs. Sid ney Hoffman and Mrs. S. W. Burris will serve on the nomi nating committee for officers for the new school year. Mrs Charles Gillming, Mrs. E. C Sunderlin and Mrs. Orval Prunk will serve as a committee to plan for the annual school picnic. Bids were read that had been submitted for the new kitchen sink and there was such a large difference in the bids that no definite action was taken. They ranged from $300 to $600. Mrs Gillming and Mrs. Richey will investigate further. The room of Mrs. Rebecca Burham receiv ed the award made each month for the largest number of moth ers present at the meeting. Re freshments for the social hour were served by Mrs. Robert Eyre and Mrs. Richey. Mrs. Cleo Keppinger opened her home on Tuesday for the April meeting of the Woman's Society for Christian Service of Middle Grove community. Meet' ing at 10 o'clock the business meeting was conducted by the president, Mrs. Roy Scofield. A report was given by Mrs. Wil liam Scharff on the Bible study classes being held each week for several months at the Evan gelical United Brethren church in Salem. Devotions were led by Mrs. Scofield. The report of the study of the book, "China Twilight or Dawn" was given by Mrs. Keppinger. In attendance were Mrs. Sco field, Mrs. Anna Wirshing. Mrs. Robert Wagers, Mrs. George Plane, Mrs. Clyde Phillips, Mrs. Carl Snyder, Mrs. Lena Bart- ruff, Mrs. John Van Laanan, Mrs. Lewis Patterson, Mrs. Wil liam Scharff. Mrs. Leonard Malm, Mrs. Wilbur Wilson and the hostess.
