    Ml Commodities
Suffer Losses
Chicago, April 28 MP) The
grain market took a (olid
pounding today. Heavy aelling
iwept into May wheat around
midway in the lession to other
pita. All commodities were
narked down for large losses.
At one time May wheat fell
more than 7 cents. Other wheat
contract! lost more than 3 cents
t extreme lows. Losses were
reduced shortly before the close,
but the market continued high
ly nervous. Trading was very
active.
Pit observers said a big ele
vator house sold heavy quanti
ties of May wheat, starting the
break. An eastern commission
house also sold during the early
part of the downturn.
The heavy selling touched off
a large number of stop loss or
ders, particularly below $2.22
for May wheat. The slight rally
came on short covering.
One factor in the downturn,
traders said, was fear that the
government would withdraw
from the cash wheat market aft
er this week. It will come into
possession of large quantities of
wheat April 30 when loans on
the 1948 crop fall due. '
Wheat closed 3'4-flV4 lower.
May $2.19-2.18V4, corn was 2 to
SM lower. May $1.33 Vi-1.34,
oats were lower, May 66-
, rye was 3 to 3 Vt lower, May
$1.24, soybeans were 3-4'i
lower, May $2.23-2.22, and
lard was 25 to 38 cents a hun
dred pounds lower. May $11.82
