Engagement
Is Announced
Announcement is made by
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur B. Mc
Lauchlan of the engagement of
their daughter. Miss Nancy Vir
ginia McLauchlan, to Donald
Wayne Earle, son of Mr. and
Mrs. William George Earle.
No date is set for the wed
ding but it is planned as an ear
ly September one.
Miss McLauchlan is a student
at the Capital Business college
and Mr. Earle attended the col
lege. Dinner Fetes
Anniversaries
' Mr. and Mrs. Stuart A Mc-
Gilvray entertained at a dinner
party Sunday evening. The ta
ble was centered with a silver
bowl of pink camellias with
matching tapers.
The occasion was the 39th
wedding anniversary of Mrs.
McGilvray's brother-in-law and
.sister, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hou
ser of Eugene, and the 12th
wedding anniversary for the
McGI 1 v r a y s ' son-in-law and
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Honsowetz of Bremerton, Wash
, Other guests were Mr. and Mrs
Ernest A. Lilly of Salem.
The McGilvrays are newcom
ers to Salem, having purchased
a new ranch style suburban
home out Liberty road and now
are at home at 398S Stanley
Lane.
Women of Rotary
Sponsor Supper
More than 80 attended the
buffet supper for which Women
of Rotary were hostesses last
evening to honor their husbands.
It was a gay nineties party, the
decorations and program carry
ing out that theme.
Following the dinner, pictures
of the gay nineties were shown,
including a singing film, and
the members sang. There also

Woman's club met with 18

Leaves on Trip
Miss Mary Larson left Satur
day by plane for Boise, Idaho,
to go from there by car with
her brother-in-law and sister,
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Kaufman, on
a trip to Iowa and Minnesota
They will be gone until mid-
May.
Dance Club
Ends Year
Waverly club concluded its
dance season, Saturday evening
with a party at the Marion
hotel. The group will resume
its dances in the fall. The
board of the club is meeting
next month to select new officers.

Travelers
Now at Home
Several Salemltes are being
welcomed home from trips.
Mr. and Mrs. George A. Rho-
ten returned this week-end
from an Interesting five weeks
trip to Honolulu. During their
absence, Mrs. Rhoten'i brother-in-law
and sister. Mr. and Mrs.
Edward J. Rief of Portland
were at the Rhoten home with
David and Merle Rhoten.
Also returning the latter part
of the week from a trip to the
islands were Mr. and Mrs. Ches
ter I. Chase. They came home
on the same ship as did the
Rhotcns, the Lurline. The Cha
ses spent most of the time in
Honolulu and also visited some
of the other island.
Home From East
Mrs. Albert A. Siewert Is be
ing welcomed home from two
months in the east. She visited
In Philadelphia with her daugh
ter, Miss Beth Siewert, and In
Washington, D.C.
Returns From South
Mrs. Abner K. Kline returned
at the week-end from three
weeks In California. She visit
ed for a time with her sister,
Mrs. Fred Smith, at Monterey
Park, also with friends at the
naval station at Inyokern, Calif.
While in the south, Mrs. Kline
also visited several Soroptimist
clubs.

garding the coffee maker which
the guild recently purchased for
use at the parish house.

Buck of Klamath Falls, the lat
ter the sister of Mrs. Drager.
At the tea hour, Mrs. Swift
and Mrs. Clarke poured.
FAIRVIEW Complimenting
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Persons of
Salem, who were married at Sa
lem, January 29, a wedding
shower was held at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Versteeg,
Saturday evening. A silver tray
was the gift presented by the
local neighbors, girlhood friends
of the bride who was Miss Slgrid
Helnonen. Games and visiting
were featured. Refreshments
were served.

Mothers Club
Election
New president for the Oregon
State College Mothers club is
Mrs. Austin H. Wilson, elections
having been held at the meet
ing of the group Monday after
noon In the YWCA. She sue
ceeda Mn. L. O. Arena in the
office.
Serving with Mrs. Wilson will
be Mrs. Ernest Walker as vice
president; Mrs. Millard A. Pe-
kar, secretary; Mrs. Carl Miller,
treasurer.
Plana were discussed by the
club for a no-host dinner In
May with the men as guests.
Installation of officer! will take
place at that time.
Guest speaker at Monday's
meeting was Dean Ava B Mi
lam of the OSC school of home
economics who told of her trip
to the Orient.

Job's Daughters
Miss Jacquelyn Jones of the
local bethel of Job's Daughters
was named honorary second
messenger for the state group at
the state meeting in Ashland
the latter part of the week. Mrs.
Kehne Wain of Salem was nam
ed third messenger for the
grand council.
The two will be given special
recognition at the meeting of
the local bethel next Monday
evening.
Going to the state event from

Newbry, Marilyn Reay, Allie
Lou Ohling, Jean Hartwell and
Jacquelyn Jones from the be

ing the betrothal of their daugh
ter. Miss Mae Belle Burns, to

The wedding is planned for
early summer, the date to be

Church Women's association is
to meet Wednesday at 2 p.m. in
the church. Featuring the pro
gram will be a talk by Mrs.
Ivan Fowler on her travels in
Guatemala and songs by Mrs.
Gladys Thomas. The executive
board is to meet at 12:45 p.m.
ZONTA club's meeting will
be Thursday evening at the
home of Miss Maxme Buren
