trPolk Taxpayers Make Payments Dallas Receipt for one-third of Polk county's total 1948-49 property tax roll have been written. Sheriff T. B. Hooker stated after compiling figures through Tuesday of this week. Total of the 2S78 receipts is $335,732.88, and an additional $4,198.34 has been collected In ' delinquent taxes. However, It is estimated that 85 of the tax roll of $1,081, 288 ii in the sheriff's office, the bulk of it being in mail that has not been processed. Over ten boxes of mail is yet to be work ed, and one full box contains nothing but blank checks, sent in by property owners who wish ed to take advantage of their rebate by November 15, but who had not yet received statements of their taxes. With the deputies working full time on the mall, it is estimat ed that at least a month will be required to complete the job. Taxpayers of the Rickreall area are still looking for their statements, although Sheriff Hooker states that all statements were mailed on November 14 It Is believed that In the rush tq get the bills out in time, one box was lost in the sheriff's of fice or somewhere in the malls. Those in the Rickreall area may find out the amount of their taxes by calling at or telephon ing the sheriff's office. so be donated for the Christmas cheer project. The appeal is made through the paper only, I and donations are purely on a voluntary subscription basis. Through donations of the pub lic the fund is used to supply toys, candy and other items to poor families residing in t n e community. Last year's response to the fund appeal was below normal, but the call on the funds was heavier than usual. For this reason, the committee hopes for increased donations this year. The Knights of Pythias lodge cooperates with the paper 1 n distributing gifts and locating needy families. No home will be overlooked if information Is received in time to make pro vision for it.
