Multlflora rose bushes, a shrub like growth that can be adapted as a "living fence," will be in troduced in Oregon as a possible new habitat for game birds, the Oregon state game commission aid today. The bushes provide "excellent cover and feed for quail and pheasants"' and already have been tried successfully in the east and middle west, the com mission said. Three of this years class A district winners, Albany, Huls boro and Jefferson of Portland were In the quarter finals last year. Mrs. Sussman said the ex pectant mother probably was one of many wild ducks she feeds at a pond about 100 feet from her home. But no matter where the duck was from, Chester A. Leichardt, regional law en forcement officer for the U.S. fish and wildlife service, said that in more than 20 years he had never heard of a duck nesting on eggs In this part of the country at this time of the year. Plaque Set Up To Honor Ruth's Last Home Run Pittsmirgh, Nov. 17 P The last major league home run hit by Babe Ruth has been memor alized by a plaque at the Pitts burgh Pirates' Forbes field. The plaque, erected yesterday, bears the following inscription: 'Babe Ruth (1895-1948) hit the last home run of his career while playing with the Boston Braves versus the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday, Mav 25, 1935. at Forbes field. Salem came from behind to score a touchdown in the second period and another in the third Claude Weaver carried the ball each time and Earl Eshleman made the extra point after the second counter. Portland. Ore., Nov. 17 A report of the legislative in terim committee on game af fairs will recommend the In crease of Oregon hunting and fishing license fees. Ira N. Gahrielson, who it compiling a report on the com mittee's studies, said the com- mittee would also recommend an end to diversion of game de partment funds to other Stat work. IT the revenues from license are not sufficient to cope with the state's diminishing wild life, resources, Gahrielson said, th committee suggests capital ex penditures be mad from th general fund. He said other recommenda tions would change state laws to make the game commission non political: eliminate geographical requirements for commission appointment; provide for a bi partisan commission; and limit the governor's power to remov commissioners. The new game code should give the commission complet authority on game and fish re gulations; provide a policy-making body with a commission-appointed director to administer all departments. According to the entries made In Buck's Salmon derby, the best fishing was from October flth to 22nd, during which time the biggest salmon were caught.
