12 Capital Journal, Salem, Oregon, Saturday, Oct. 12, 1946 H. Sperling Fatally Hurt Herman Sperling. 63, who lived on route 1. Indepndence, died in a Salem hospital Friday night from injuries received in a traffic accident Friday eve ning at the junction of Highway 9BW and the Helmick Park road four and a half miles south of Monmouth. Investigation indicated that Sperling had driven in a light car off the park road into the highway and in front of a car driven by Jack Burris, 2746 Southeast Stark street, Portland. The Sperling car was overturn ed, and both vehicles badly damaged. Sperling was brought to a Sa lem hospital by the Indepen dence ambulance. Burris receiv ed a slight leg injury. No other persons were with either driver. Leave for Nebraska Jefferson Mrs. Harry Bash ford left for her home in North Platte, Nebr., after several days' visit at the home of Rev. and Mrs. A. E. Bashford. She visit ed her nieces in Carnation and Milton, Wash., before coming to Jefferson. Her husband and Rev. Bashford are brothers. Senator Makes Target Of Alumina Plant Press dispatches say that the Salem alumina plant is among three government - sponsored projects that Senator Maybank of South Carolina will attempt to have declared surplus in a resolution he proposes to intro duce in congress at the next ses sion. The other two alumina plants are located at Hartley- ville, S. C, and Salt Lake City. Y. girl, dur ing burial ceremonies at St. Mary's cemetery in Lawrence. The girl was buried in the bridal gown she wore at Inwood, N. Y., when she collapsed and died while walking to the altar. Parrish Has Nominee List Students at Parrish junior high school went to the polls Friday to select candidates for the general election scheduled for October 18. As has been the case for a number of years, Parrish students operate their campaign for student body of fices on the two-party system Liberators and Studenteers. Minor, man ager of the coal mines opera tions on the Stayton road near Silverton, announced Friday that graveling is being complet ed on the road leading from near the cemetery to the opening of the mine shaft, and that work would be started on the mines proper early this month.
