Z Charming bride at Tuesday
;'vening wedding rites was Miss
Janice Patterson, daughter of
'Major and Mrs. Frank Patterson
'of Seattle and Salem, who was
married to William Burke Cate,
!son of Mrs. L. Moberly of Mid
dleton, Idaho. The ceremony
.was solemnized in the chapel
of St. Paul's Episcopal church
"at 8 o'clock, Rev. George H.
Swift, rector, officiating.
All-white flowers, asters and
snapdragons decorated the altar
for the wedding. Maurice Bren
nan played the organ music.
. For her wedding the bride
wore a white lace dress, fash
ioned with long bodice and
round neckline and a dropped
full skirt. The long plain sleeves
came to a point at the wrist
and down each sleeve was a row
of self-trimmed buttons. The
fingertip veil of tulle was ar
ranged from a lace crown. The
bride carried a prayer book on
which were placed three white
orchids with streamers. Major
Patterson gave his daughter in
marriage.
Miss Jean Patterson was maid
of honor for her sister. Her
dress was of peach net, made in
similar style to that of the
bride but with cap sleeves. She
wore a tiny cap of flowers and
her bouquet was a cascade one

, A reception for family mem
'bers and a few friends was held
iin the South Winter street home
of the bride's parents following
Jthe church service.
The bride's table was set with
"the cake, around which was an
'arrangement of white bou
,vardia and ivory tapers. Mrs,
'E. E. Bragg cut the cake and
,.Mrs. Bessie Horner presided at
the punch bowl. Serving were
Misses Margaret Hughlett, Don
ma Upjohn, Barbara Belt and
jMary Nims, the latter of Port
tland. Miss Virginia Case had
"charge of the guest book.
For her daughter's wedding,
JMrs.- Patterson wore a navy
.'sheer dress with black acces
sories, and a corsage of roses
and fuchsias. The bridegroom's
'mother wore navy blue crepe
iwith black accessories, also a
corsage f roses and fuchsias.
i Among out-of-town relatives
attending the wedding were Mr.
'and Mrs. Paul Tucker and Mrs.
'Sophia Godfrey, cousins of the
Jbridegroom, all of Portland.
The couple went to Canada
on their wedding trip and early
ln September will leave for
jBoston, planning to be there

Her marriage to Capt. Leslie
Bruce Hills, Jr., son of Mr.
and Mrs. L. B. Hills of Osage,
Iowa, will take place the after
noon of Sunday, September 8,
at 4 o'clock in the First Pres
byterian church, Dr. Chester W.
Hamblin officiating. A recep
tion will be held in the church
parlors following the service.

be Miss Carolyn Weeks and
Mrs. Homer Stiffler, also sisters

Capt. Hills is now on terminal
leave, having arrived last week
from Yokohama where he had
been stationed. His mother is
planning to come west from
Iowa for the wedding.

St. Joseph's Catholic church
was the scene for a wedding
Wednesday afternoon when Miss
Shirley Porter, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. M. G. Porter, was mar
ried to Myron Balloun, son of
Mrs. Mary Balloun. The service
was at three o'clock, Rev. J.
Lenahcn officiating.
Mr. Porter gave his daughter
in marriage. The bride's dress
was fashioned with a white satin
bodice and a full white net skirt
She wore a three-quarter length
veil of net arranged from a
beaded halo, and for her flowers
carried a bououet of white car
nations and other white blooms.
Mrs. Leonard Balloun, matron
of honor, wore yellow with a
small Juliet cap of lace, ' and
her flowers were varied summer
blooms.
Miss Delores Porter, sister of
the bride, Mrs. Truett Owens,
both in pink gowns, and Miss
Virginia Kitchen and Miss Nel
lie King, wearing blue, were the
four bridesmaids. All carried
bouquets of mixed blooms. ,
Leonard Balloun was best
man for his brother, and ushers
were Morris McElwce, Sgt. Tru
ett Owens, Ben Meyers, Robert
Randle of Eugene and Carlton
Tcngs, two cousins of the bride,
and Robert Jacobs.
A reception was held at the
Lions Den following the church
service. Miss Barbara Baldwin
presided at the punch bowl,
Miss Beverly Aronson cut the
cake, Miss Dorothy Sturm serv
ed the cake, and Miss Marjorie
DeTour was in charge of the
guest book.
For traveling the bride wore
a pearl grey suit with brown ac
cessories and a corsage of pink
flowers. The couple went on a
trip to California and will re
turn to make their home in
Salem.

brose Ebner entertained recent
ly in compliment to their son,
Bobby Ebner, celebrating his
eighth birthday anniversary.
Mrs. Henry Zollncr assisted at
serving for her grandson. The
afternoon was spent with swim
ming and games at the Abiqua
river. Supper was served at
the Ebner home. Present were

Thomas O'Leary of Salem
gave the bride in marriage. She
wore a gown of white satin,
fashioned with fitted bodice and
long sleeves, the dress ending
in a long train. The net finger
tip veil, edged in lace, fell from
a coronet of seed pearls. She
wore a three-strand pearl neck
lace and carried an arm bouquet
of Talisman roses with white
satin streamers.
Mrs. Raleigh F. Morrow of
Molalla, sister of the bride
groom, was matron of honor.
She wore a gown of powder
blue chiffon. Her headdress
was a Dutch cap, sequin cover
ed, and she carried a nosegay
of mixed flowers.
Miss Patricia Dardis was her
sister's bridesmaid in a gown
of pink silk jersey. She wore
a sequin covered cap and car
ried a nosegay.
Gerald Dardis served as best
man and ushers were Raleigh
F. Morrow and C. J. Butsch.
Serving at the altar were James
Dardis and Richard Harris.
Mrs. Dardis wore an aqua
marine street dress with dusty
pink accessories and a pink car
nation corsage for her daugh
ter's wedding. Mrs. Seethoff
wore a watermelon colored
wool suit with white acces
sories. Her corsage was yellow
carnations.
Following the 9 o'cioek cere
mony a wedding breakfast was
served at the Mt. Angel hotel
with covers placed for 35 guests
and the wedding party. Miss
Jeannette Fennimore and Miss
Louise Stecklein served at
breakfast.
A reception was held at the
home of the bride's mother at
Salem, during the afternoon.
Pouring were Mrs. A. J.
Gauthier of Portland and Mrs.
Thomas O'Leary of Salem.
Serving were Mrs. A. Hampton,
Mrs. Floyd Hastay and Miss Kay
O'Leary.

Visiting Salem
Miss Ethel E. Hepner, at one
time a resident of Salem where
she has many friends, is visiting
here from Washington, D.C., as

the treasury department in the

tensive trip by plane. From here

The Sons of Union Veterans
and their auxiliary met on the
lawn at the E. T. Prescott home
for a no-host picnic supper Tues
day evening.
Mrs. Hubert Morgan was in
charge of the program, which
included instrumental and vocal
numbers by Mr. and Mrs. King,
newcomers to Salem; a reading
by Hubert Morgan, jokes by
many of those present, and sing
ing of hymns, as well as short
talks by Glen Adams, president
of the Sons group, and Mrs.
Wayne Henry.
The September meeting will
be at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Hubert Morgan.
