Washington, D.C., and formerly
of Salem, who has been the
guest of Mrs. Walter Kirk and
Mr and Mrs. Wm. McGilchrist,
Jr., was honored Thursday after
noon when the Salem matrons
entertained at the McGilchrist
home.
The 25 guests for the informal
tea were old friends and sor
ority sisters of the visitor, who
will leave shortly to fly east
from Portland.

marriage will be an event of the
summer, was honored Thursday
evening at a shower given at the
home of Miss Izola Shepp, with
Mrs. Ann Kiggcn as assisting

Lions Officers
Are Installed
The Lions club auxiliary met
Thursday afternoon for a picnic
at the country home of Mrs. A.
C. Haag during which new of
ficers were installed, with Mrs.
Estill Brunk as installing officer.
Mrs. Glenn Weaver is presi
dent, Mrs. Stanley Smith, vice
president; Mrs. Wayne Dough
ton, secretary, and Mrs. L. M.
Ramage, treasurer.
Donations were made to chil
dren at the blind school, toward
glasses for one child and to pay
expenses for another at the blind
Khool. Reports were made on
the state convention held at
Oceanlake.
Assisting hostesses with Mrs.
Haag were Mrs. Floyd Seamster,
Mrs. Loren Wise, Mrs. Carroll
Ford, Mrs. William Newmeyer
and Mrs. Denver Young.
Returning Thursday from San
Francisco were Mr. and Mrs.
Richard G. Severin, who made
the Palace hotel their headquar
ters while on a combined busi
ness and pleasure trip in the
southern city. In San Rafael,
the couple visited with their
son and daughter-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. Richard Severin.
A new glass fabric ironing
board cover is expected to mini
mize fire hazard because it will
not burn or char. In tests it has
been subjected to iron tempera
tures in the range of 300 to 600
degrees, F.

annual convention of the Unit
ed Spanish War Veterans aux
iliary meeting in Salem, June
23 to 26. Mrs. McClung is
state president of the auxiliary.
