San Diego, March 21 (U.R) This is about a dark young man
coming into your life pretty soon with a brand new red leather
convertible coupe he says he'll sell you for $545, or a sedan or
station wagon for $50 more. A few years ago he was a kid
cleaning looms in Fall River, Mass., for 50 cents a week. His
mother was a widow with nine
ons to support and this boy
we're talking about said it was
pretty tough going even with the
groceries supplied by city wel
fare. Orders Pile Up
The family is going to do bet
ter now since this particular son
whose name is S. A. Williams,
took a mail order course in en
gineering and invented an auto
mobile for which he says he has
one hundred and ten million
dollars' worth of confirmed ord
ers so far, based on a total pro
duction of two completed cars
to date.
In addition the company he
organized has sold another mil
lion dollars worth of dealer
ships all over the place. It's
called the Bobbi-Kar Corpora
tion and it is already spread
over three former airplane man
ufacturing plants around here
and is dickering with the gov
ernment for a fourth. Tooling is
going ahead and volume produc
tion of 1500 cars a day is sched
uled for October.
I saw a finished model of the
little car which has caused all
the commotion.

tion room of the company's ex
ecutive offices in the former
Ryan Aircraft plant. It's a smart
and substantial looking little job
finished in red leather, includ
ing the instrument panel which
is mounted on sponge rubber. It
has a semi-circular windshield
with no center post. Engine and
transmission are in the rear,
and removable as a single unit
by loosening 13 bolts. Idea is
that when you have repair work
to be done the shop will install
a loan motor in 10 minutes while
it keeps yours for fixing. The
top is all metal, and when re
moved folds up into the luggage
compartment under the hood.
The Bobbi-Kar will do 40 to
45 miles to the gallon, I was
told by Vice President and Pro
duction Manager John Liefeld,
a curly haired automotive vet
eran who attained, the ripe old

Started as Toy
Asked how he became inter
ested in small cars, he left his
office and returned with a 14
inch model automobile powered
by a tiny single cylinder engine.
"Built this five years ago
and it still runs like a top," he
said. "I did that just for fun
and to kill time.
"Then when my son Bobbi
was born, less than three years
ago, I decided to build a larger
and more practical model.
"One day a friend offered me
$2,000 to build another for his
son. So I rented a garage and
hired a mechanic for that job,
and before I was finished I had
more and more orders."

by Dr William C. Jones, presi
dent o' Whittier college, Calif.
Dr. Jones, former professor of
economics at Willamette univer
sity foi several years, later at
the University of Oregon, is a
prominent church layman. He
was once president of the Ore
gon Laymen's Fellowship and
now holds that position in Cali
fornia. Laymen were present from
Eugene, First church of Port
land, Park Rose of Portland,
Staub Memorial of Portland,
Beaverton, Pilgrim of Portland,
Forest Grove, Knight Memorial
anct First of Salem.
Paul Davies of Portland, su
perintendent of the Oregon Con
gregational conference, spoke
briefly, and Dr. Jones was in
troduced by Dr. Fred Richards
of Forest Grove, now president
of the Oregon Laymen's Fellow
ship. Dinner was served by the wo
men of the Salem First church.

of milk and water. Add mixture of
sugar, cornstarch and salt to eggs
and vanilla. Stir in milk mixture.
Pour into deep 7-inch pie pan lined
with unbaked pastry. Bake on center
shelf of oven 15 min., then reduce
to slow (325 F.) and bake 20 min.
