Cantata Features
Christian Service
Christmas music will be fea
tured at both morning and eve
ning worship services of the
First Christian church this
Christmas Sunday. In the
morning service, both the Jun
ior choir, under the direction
of Mrs. Clay J. Pomeroy, and
the senior choir, under the direc
tion of John Schmidt, Jr., will
be featured. Rev. Dudley
Strain has as his morning ser
mon topic, "Be Born In Us To
day." On the evening of December
23 the senior choir will pre
icnt the cantata, "The Story of
Christmas," by H. Alexander
Matthews. This cantata gives
a portrayal of the Christmas
story from its inception in pro
phecy to its fulfillment in the
nativity scene. There will be
a choir of 35 voices to sing the
cantata. Soloists for the occa
sion will be Betty Pugh Hagen
and Mae Lamb, sopranos: De
light Skewis, mezzo-soprano;
Leslie C a r s o n, tenor, and Vic
tor Wolfe, bass.

Sung Sunday Morn
At the 11 o'clock Christmas
worship service of the First
Church of the Nazarene, 13th
at Center, Sunday, December
23, Rev. F. W. Walkin, assis
tant pastor, will present the
church choir in portions of
"The Messiah." The chorus will
render "Behold the Lamb of
God," by Handel, and Frances
Watkin and I la Dexter will
sing the air, "He Shall Feed
His Flock." Mrs. D. B. Klei
hege will preside at the con
sole of the orgatron. The pas
tor, Rev. R. W. Coulter, will
speak on "Christmas and the
World Dilemma." The service
will be concluded by the chorus
singing the "Hallelujah Cho
rus." At 7:30 o'clock Mrs. Frances
Walkin, cantata director, will
present the church choir in the
Christmas cantata, "Carol of
the Bells." by Lee Rogers.
Rev. R. W. Coulter will speak
on "Born King!" Rev. and
Mrs. Coulter will entertain the
choir with a buffet luncheon at
0:30 o'clock at the church par
sonage, 1304 Jefferson,

The annual Sunday school
Christinas program will be pre
sented at 10:30 a. m. in a uni
fied worship service. The min
ister, the Rev. Wilmer N. Brown
will speak on the theme, "The
Focal Rays of the Star of Beth
lehem." The choir, under the direction
of Mr. Brown, will present the
cantata-pageant, "Pilgrims to
Bethlehem" by Nolte at 7:30 p.
m. The pageant will portray the
story of the nativity with color
ful costuming in Oriental set
ting. The accompaning choral
music follows the spoken word.
Preceeding the cantata-pageant,
William Fawk, organist,
will present a concert of Christ
mas music. He will play: "My
Spirit is in Heaviness" by Bach;
"The Nativity" by Horkanson;
"Christmas in Sicily" bv Yon;
"Cradle Song" by Brahms
Barnes; and ".Jesu Bambino" by
Yon. The public is cordially in
