Miss Lord explained the botan
ical names of those plants shown
and told of their use in land
scape gardening. She was as
sisted by Miss Edith Schryver.
Roll call was answered with
the names of bulb flowers and
it was voted lo donate $2.50 to
the Red Cross drive. Mrs. Har
old Jones was appointed pub
licity director for the balance
of the year.
A large number of pitcher
flower arrangements were en
tered in the contest with Mrs.
Harold Ticknor's arrangement
receiving the most votes for
which she received the club
book to read during the com
ing month. Mrs. Frank Covey
won second place and was pre
sented with a gift.
New members present were
Mrs. Harold Ingram, Mrs. Mary
Tuss and Mrs. M. D. Perd. Mr.
and Mrs. Richard Yates renewed
their membership.
It was decided to invite Mrs.
H. G. Stanton of Portland to
demonstrate flower arrange
ments at the April 11 meeting
of the club. At this meeting
J. J. Hall will lead a round table
discussion.
American Legion
Observes Birthday
The annual birthday party of
the American Legion was ob
served last night following sep
arate business sessions of Capi
tal Post No. 0 and Capital Unit
with department officers of
both organizations guests and
speaking briefly.
The post degree team ini
tiated a class of veterans of
World war II following short
talks by Dan McDade, of Port
land, state commander of the
legion and Fritz Nissen, also of
Portland, state adjutant.
Adjournment of the post was
taken to the Women's club
building where members were
entertained at the annual birth-,
day party by the Auxiliary
members with a short program
offered.
Third School Fire
Probed in Klamath
Merrill, Ore., March 21 tU.R)
Investigation was begun today
on the third Klamath school
blaze of mysterious origin to
occur recently.
An apparent attempt lo de
stroy the Merrill high school
by fire was discovered yester
day by the janitor, Virgin Mor
row, who found paper piled in
the center of the furnace room
ablaze and spreading.
Two other community schools,
one at Dorris, Cal., IB miles ,
south of Klamath Falls, and
one at Bonanza in Klamath
county have been destroyed by
fire recently.
