Miller became the bride of - Harold Monson. Miss Miller has' for some time been the office manager' of Day and company, and Mr, Monson was - formerly the service manager of Day and company. ' They were married by. Rev. Fred C. Taylor; a former pastor of the First -Methodist church in Salem. -', j . .' The bride wore a "frock of brown -wool, fashioned with a V yoke and an ornamentation of gold nailheads. 'Her . accessories and fur coat were of brown; and she wore a corsage of deep lavender orchids. ; . -faw The couple was attended by Mr. , JMI Mrs. Rollin K, Page. Mrs. Page wore a frock of wine red silk jersey and black .. accessories. ?. . . ; . ' Mr. Monson is a private first class .In the marine reserve corps and is now ..stationed at Tongue Point. He. was in the capital on a brief furlough. .,, Informal dancing between the hours . of 8 and 11 o'clock will provide the en tertainment for the servicemen! and - Junior Hostess league members visiting - the USO center this evening, and games , will be in play in the game room for the ; -non-dancers. Lost buttons will be sewed on . and tears will be mended for the men in the services Tuesday by the American War Mothers, who are meeting in the small clubroom at the center from 10 o'clock in the morning until 2 o'clock-in the af ternoon. Tuesday evening beginning -dancers will be instructed in that art at a class beginning at 7:30 o'clock, and- at 8 o' Fck, Camera club members will hold their regular meeting. The, final-event listed for Tuesday's activities is the soiig- fest. .-. - Servicemen will read, write letters, dance, play games with the Junior Hos tesses visiting the center Wednesday, and partake of all types of Informal activi ties which are listed for that evening. Late-that afternoon : service men spending the night in Salem will be permitted-to register at the USO for cots at the YMCA and at St. Joseph's hall, both of which places are under the su pervision of the USO. Once again Saturday evening; the ;men in uniform and the Junior Hostess -league members will be entertained at . an informal dance at the center between tile hours of 8 and 11 o'clock. A concert of recorded music, con sisting of tuneful, lilting numbers from famous light operas, will be given in the recreation room of the YWCA Sunday afternoon, December 13, at 3:30 o'clock. . Miss ' Schryver, who is an instructor at Oregon State college this win ter, is widely known for her ability as a decorator, and her talk promises much of "Interest. The American Home de- . partment chairman, who arranged - for Miss Schryver to appear, is Mrs. W. Ger ald Nibler. Plans for presenting gifts for the girls at Hill crest school at the club's annual Christ mas, party on December 21 will be told by the party chairrhan, Miss Maria . Dare'. Completed plans for the club's Christmas dance will be told by the chairman, Miss Hazel Shiitt, and mem bers of her committee wih distribute tickets. " Little Garden club of Salem Heights met at the home of Mrs. Char les Sawyer with 17 members attending. Mrs. Paul Acton speke on growing plants and Mrs. C. A. Kells spoke on the Christmas holly. A gala Christmas party will be the event of Monday, December 14, when members of the Chi Omega alumnae gather at the home of Mrs. George W. Neuner, 1470 Market street. Dessert sup per will be served to the guests and sev eral hours- of bridge will be in play. Members will exchange' gifts. Mrs. de Sully Is the former Helena, Schneider, and is the daughter of Mrs. Marie H. Schneider. Mr, de Sully is the ' son of Mr, and Mrs. Charles de Sully of Portland. (Jesten-MIUer), - Members of the Westminster guild of the First 'Presbyterian church will meet at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, December 16. Rev. W.' Irvin Williams will lead the devotions and member's will bring gifts for the servicemen. , . . The speaker of the afternoon will be Mrs. William Everett Anderson, who will speak upon Christmas greens and their decorative uses. A chorus from the Willamette university choir, under the direction of Dean Melvin H. Geist, will present special Christmas music. Salem Ministers' Wives will meet with Mrs. J. C. Harrison, 636 State street for a dessert luncheon at 1:30 o'clock Tues day, December 16. Sharing hostess hon ors will be Mrs. M. A. Getzendaner, Mrs. Warren Hale, Mrs. Irving Fox, Mrs. Weaver W. Hess, Mrs. T. W. Henderson and Mrs. Harrison. : The honored guests at the meeting will be the wives of retired ministers, who make their homes in Salem. Mrs. Irving Fox has prepared the program, and will give a reading entitled, "The Christmas Story." Members are planning to bring scrap books and notebooks, which will be sent to Japanese children situated in the re location centers, who have- been evac uated from the Salem district. - - R. AND MRS. J. W. Gilmour of Jefferson, are announcing this week-end, the betrothal of their' . daughter, Miss Aneta Gilmour to John . S. Craig, son of Dr. and Mrs. D. D. Craig of Salem Heights. 1 The marriage will be an event of the -Christmas holiday season in Los An . geles.-. - Miss Gilmour was graduated from schools in Jefferson and later attended business college. She is now connected with Boeing in Seattle. Mr. Craig was graduated from Salem schools and attended the Oregon College of Education in Monmouth. He is now with the army air corps, and is stationed in Los Angeles. Mrs. Millard Fekar of Salem Heights is spending the week-end in . Symbol of the opening of the Christ mas season is the "hanging of the greens," an annual event, which will be ' observed at the YWCA Monday evening between the hours of 4 and 6 o'clock un der the direction of Mrs. Breyman Boise :' and Miss Pat Walcott and Miss Barbara Hoadley of the high school Tri-Y group. Richmond Parent Teachers association 'will meet Monday evening, December 14, at 7:30 o'clock at the school. George Kayser will preside at the business meet ing. Following the business meeting a room count will be taken and a prize will be awarded to the room having the most parents present. A program-will be presented, later in the evening. . Miss Carolyn Parker will present a piano solo. Miss Betty Randall and Robert Eugene Brown will give a reading entitled, "Gift of the Magi," by O. Henry. The program will' be conclud ed with the tinging of Christmas carols, led by Miss Mathilda Glllis, 4th grade teacher. ' 1 v -' 'A V , '( Willamette University Campus In a patriotic setting of red, white and blue streamers and gold eagles placed in stra tegic formation, members of the Kappa Gamma Rho fraternity will entertain with their dinner dance at the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall this evening. Car-: rylng out the patriotic theme of the dec orations will be the defense stamp cor sages that will mark the places of the feminine guests. Deviating from the patriotic and a bit on the romantic side will be the ballroom, where floating candles will light the garden pool in the center of the dance floor. Palms and a white pick et fence will surround the pool and , palms will be used in decorating the : room: .". : , Johnny Callis and his orchestra will play for the dancing, the hours for which will be from 8:3.0 to 1 1:30 o'clock. THE lovely First Presbyterian church will be the scene of a beautiful ceremony Sunday, De cember 13, at 3 o'clock, when M'- Yvonne Jeanette Bolton becomes the bride of Jimmie L. Ritchie. Miss Bolton is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil T. Bolton and Mr. Ritchie is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde T. Ritchie. The church will be decorated with baskets of white chrysanthemums and tapers in tall' candelabra. Lighting the tapers will be Miss Barbara Arthur and Miss Shirley Johnson.' Preceding the ceremony Prof. Frank Churchill will play wedding selections, and will also play the wedding proces sional and recessional marches'. Rev. W. She' will wear a gown of egg-shell satin fashioned with seed pearl ornamentation at the neckline. The gown has a full skirt, extending into' a slight train and long sleeves. ' Her 'full length veil will fall -from a pearl crown. She will carry a shower bouquet of garden ias, carnations and chrysanthemums. Miss Adell Andersori will be the bride's honor attendant. She wity wear a pastel blue metallic satin gown fashion ed with a sweetheart ' neckline; short sleeves and full skirt: -She will wear a small blue hat, and will carry a bouquet of pink chrysanthemums.' Bridesmaids will include Miss-Mildred ' Burnham, Miss Barbara Arthur and Miss Shirley Johnson. They will wear sheer gowns fashioned with torso bod ices, full skirts and three quarter length sleeves. They will each -carry a colonial bouquet of pastel flowers. Miss Burnham will be gowned in turquoise, Miss Arthur , will wear pink and-Miss Johnson will wear a frock of orchid. After December 20, the couple will be at home to their friends in Portland. Several gala holiday affairs are be ing planned for the servicemen at the Salem Recreation center; which is locat ed in Pringle park. Arranging the deco rations for the center will be members of the Salem Garden-club. The larscest event of those -planned at the center will, be a Christmas party planned for December ,23. The center will be host at the regular Wednesday evening affair with a-group of soldiers bidden from the fairgrounds. Junior and Senior hostesses will be invited to at . tend. - '; Dancing and games" will form the entertainment of the evening, and re- ' f reshments will be served. ' , Wives of enlisted then making their homes in Salem will be entertained at the home of Mrs. Sherwood Gerber at 1410 Ferry street Monday afternoon. All enlisted men's Wives who have hot al ready joined the group are asked to contact Mrs. Fred Leger at 4442 for the Monday meeting. Mrs. Melvin H. Geist will entertain Monday evening, with members of Mu Phi Epsilon as her guests. The event Will be at the Geist home in Lefelle street and will be a Christmas party.
