Peak Labor Day
Washington, Sept. 1 (U.R1 The
United States shipbuilding pro
gram reaches a peak on Labor
day, September 7, when the navy
launches or lays the keels of
more than 150 naval vessels,
while a number of merchant
vessels slide down the ways.
The maritime commission has
announced that at least six mer
chant ships named after labor
leaders will be launched on
Labor day. Others will be
launched then or earlier at oth
er shipyards throughout the
country, but public ceremonies
are not planned.

Calif.; Andrew Furuseth, Rich
