Consumption of
Gasoline Drops
Reports compiled by Ihe state
department indicated today a
steadily decreasing consumption
of gasoline by Oregon motorists.
For the first six months of
1942, Ihe total was 12,828,220
gallons less than for the corre
sponding period in 1941. Through
July of this year, 151,998,261
gallons were used, compared to
164,828,491 for Ihe 1942 halt
year, the department said.
A total of $7,599,913 in gaso
line taxes was paid during the
first six months of this year,
$641,411 less than the 1941 fig
ure of $8,241,324.
Refunds to users of motor
fuels through July of this year
amounted t o approximately
12.38 per cent.

Frascr, arrived here today at
the invitation of President Roose
velt, to spend about ten days In
the United States.
Almost his first words were
warm praise of the American
fighting men "your men" in
New Zealand and elsewhere in
the southwest Pacific.
Fraser exchanged greetings
with Secretary of State Hull,
British Ambassador Lord Hali
fax, New Zealand Minister Wal
ler Nash and other officials who
met his plane, then said:
"You may be very certain that
your boys are doing their best
and that they are on the very
best of terms with our people
down there.
"We know what a fine per
formance they delivered on the
Solomons and what a fine ac
count they are giving of them
selves everywhere."
The prime minister was ac
companied by Brigadier General
Patrick J. Hurley, American
minister to New Zealand.'
