'BLACK HOLE' Since 1902 this shaft In Calcutta has
marked the spot where on a torrid June 20, 1756, the 146 per
eons who remained after the capture of Fori Williams by Suraj
ud-Dowlah, nawab of Bengal, were forced Into a two -windowed
ruard room. It was 18' x 14' 10", and only 23 persons were alive
next day. This was the "Black Hole of Caluctta."
