Miss Anita Wagner
Tells Wedding Plans
From Seattle comes word today of the wedding plans of Miss Anita
Wagner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Wagner of Salem, and
Vernon Drye of Seattle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Drye. Miss Wagner,
one of Salem's most charming maids, has been malting her home in the
north following her graduation from the University of Washington. The

Miss Harriet Klelnsorge of SHverton,
has chosen St. Paul's Kpiscopal
church In Salem as the setting for
her wedding next Saturday after
noon, August 23, at 4:30 o'clock. Miss
Klelnsorge, who is the daughter of
Dr. and Mrs. Rudolph E. Kleinsorge,
will become the bride of James Tur
ner of Corvallis and Portland.
Rev, George H. Swift will perform
the ceremony before the immediate
families of the couple. Miss Ruth
Bedford will play the . wedding
marches.
The bride's father will give her
in marriage. Her sister, Miss Eliza
beth Kleinsorge, will be the honor
attendant.
Dr. Robert Jones of Corvallis will
be best man for Mr. Turner,

Senator and Mrs. Douglas McKay
and their daughters, Miss Shirley
and Miss Mary Lou, will leave Fri

as Chehalls by Miss Mary Ross
Holts, who has been their house
guest since last Thursday and will
return to the home of her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Holts, former

guests.
Immediately after the breakfast
the couple will leave for a stay at
Seaside and then will come on to
Salem for a few days. From here
they will go to Timberline lodge and
on to Yakima and Seattle.
Miss Wagner was a prominent
member of Spinsters in Salem. Fol
lowing her. graduation from the uni
versity she has been with the public
library in the city of Seattle.
Mr. Drye also was graduated from
the University of Washington and
is affiliated with Sigma Chi fra
ternity. He is now with the Seattle
Transit system.

Will Speak'
In Albany
Albany Mrs. Saidie Orr Dunbar,
executive secretary of the Oregon
State Tuberculosis association and
Junior past president of the National
Federation of Women's clubs, is slat
ed to speak at a large tea in Albany
Wednesday, August 27, at the home
of Mrs. R. W. Tripp, In West Seventh
street, under the auspices of the
Woman's Society of Christian Ser
vice of the Methodist church.
Mrs. Dunbar will speak on "Wom
an's Place in National Defense." The
public is invited to the tea, which
will be held in the gardens sur
rounding the Tripp home.

Newcomer at
Salem Library
New arrival in Salem Is Miss
Charlotte Stone, children's librarian
at the Salem public library, who
took over her duties last week. She
Is replacing Miss Elizabeth Carey,
for three years the children's libr
arian here, who has gone to Kla
math Falls to organize a Juvenile de
partment. Miss stone was graduated from the
school of llbrarlanship at the Uni
verlty of Washington this June, tak
ing a minor in dramatics and voice.
Her specialized training has been in
story telling and she will continue
the weekly stories to the children
of Salem at the library. The regu
lar winter series of Saturday morn
ing story hours will start next
month.
Miss Stone's home is in Caldwell,
Idaho.

Married to
Roger Bailey
Miss Myrtle Groshong of Port
land and Roger H. Bailey of Salem
were married Wednesday morning at
9:30 o'clock at First Congregational
church, Rev. Robert Hutchinson of
ficiating. Members of the families of
the couple were guests at the cere
mony. The bride wore a traveling suit of
victory blue with navy accessories.
Her corsage was of gardenias.
There were no attendants,
Mr. and Mrs. Bailey left imme
diately after the wedding for a trip
and will be "at home" in Salem
after September 1.
Mrs. Bailey attended Carlton col
lege in Northfield, Minn. Mr. Bailey
attended eastern schools and is now
in the grocery business In Salem.

est mid-summer social affairs of
the season for an afternoon tea ar
ranged for the pleasure of Mrs.
E, W. Mutch of Penticton, B. C,
and many of her friends from Port
land, Salem and SHverton.
Mrs. Mutch is here for the month
as house guest of her daughter and
son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Mc
Glnnfs of Cool id ge street, and of
Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Woodard of
Portland.
The large rooms of the Keene
home were candlelightcd amid an
artistic decor of grey-pink gladio
luses in tall and flat arrangements.
The table was covered with a Vene
tian cloth. Presiding at the urns dur
ing the first hours were Mrs. M
C. Woodard and Mrs, George Pow
ell, both of Portland, and during
the latter period, Mrs. George Steel-
hammer and Mrs. W. L. McGInnis.
Mrs. P. A. Loar assisted Mrs. Keene
about the rooms.
Among other delightful social
gestures complimenting Mrs. Mutch
was a breakfast for a group at
the summer cabin home of the
Nelson Adamses on the North San-
tiam Friday, and a day among the
mountains.
Dinner hosts for the popular vis
itor have been Mr. and Mrs. J. C.
Currey at the country home in the
Waldo Hills section and Mr. and
Mrs. Henry Pritzlaff of West Main
street.
Mrs. M. C. Woodard entertained
today at a charmingly arranged
noon luncheon at the Town club In

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Marlatt of

Dr. Bush Is head of the romance
languages department at the Uni

son met some time ego on a trip to
Europe and their friendship has
continued since that time.
Miss Marian Griffith of Tacoma
was visiting friends in Salem Wed
nesday. Miss Oriffith, who is a
member of the faculty at the Sandy
high school, Is a former University
of Oregon student and a member
of Pi Beta Phi sorority.

Rotarians Have Annual
Picnic at Chemawa
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Jackson were hosts at another of their delightful
parties at Chemawa Wednesday evening when they entertained Salem
Rotarians and their families with a gay dinner and evening of sports. Two
hundred and four Salem folk were present for the affair. Games of ping
pong, badminton, archery and baseball were enjoyed before the dinner
hour. Ellis VonEschen, president of
the Salem Rotary club, was chair
man of the party and was assisted
by Gardner Knapp, who also pre
sided as toastmaster.
Selections were given by the quar
tet from the Salem Y Gleemen and
by Ruthyn Turney, who played a
Fantasy on the Blue Bells of Scot
land on the double bass, accompan
ied by Mrs. Turney. Joseph Medi
cine Crow, a new member of the
Chemawa staff, told Indian legends
and vocal numbers were given by
Dean Mclvin Geist of Willamette
university.
