Braley collection of mounted birds
and eggs, one of the nation's top
ornothological collections, has been
given to Oregon State college by
Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Braley of Depoe
Bay, TruckUoads of material gath
ered over 56 years are being moved
to the campus and installed in
fire proof quarters.
The collection consists of 32.500
eggs, 1,000 mounted birds and 1,200
bird skins not completely mounted.
The collection also includes more
than 100 mounted mammals. The
entire collection has been appraised
at a book value of more than $77,

in no way related to the current

Strike Threatens
Seattle, May 21 (U.R) Western
Union Telegraph company officials
today conferred with a committee
from the Commercial Telegraphers'
union (AFL) In an effort to settle
a dispute over a union shop and
40-hour week before a strike dead
line tomorrow.
Arvid B. Wicklund, chairman of
the union's negotiating committee,
said "some progress" had been made
in meetings Monday and yesterday,
but that no major confessions had
been made by the company. He said
the strike would be called if no
agreement is in sight after today's
conference.
The strike would involve about
400 persons, Including messengers,
at all of the company's Seattle op
erations. The union claims 120 mem
bers but is bargaining for a total
of 175 operators, Wicklund said.
The telegraphers were organized
by the AFL union after the Asso
ciation of Western Union Employes,
a company union, was ordered dis
solved last year. Negotiations for
a contract began here February 4.

don News Chronicle appealed to
the United States today to enter
the war immediately, "not to save
us from defeat but to help us to
victory quickly." '
The newspaper said that without
American fighting aid, Britain
would require a long tlme perhaps
years to beat the axis, "but if you
come in and come In fighting, we
can whip these savages back into
their caves before the end of next
year."
