fixed on an axis parallel to the
eartnV axis, so that he can follow
the stars.. as they move across, the
heavens- Mr. Bradley showed the
group how the light reflected In the-
telescope so a person could see . the
object he was looking at. There is
a concave glass, coated with alum
inum, made to reflect the light rays
to onng them to a focal point near
the end of the telescope. . At the
end .there is a mirror inside the
telescope which reflects the light
up through an eyepiece, into which
the observer looks.
' Mr, Bradley has three telescopes,
one small . telescope to sight with,
another a" little bit larger, and the
largest; which is about 12 feet long.
Mr. Bradley, had on display some
very interesting pictures of the
moon, different planets and nebu
lae. "'.

Hold Attention
Last Friday two pictures we're
shown, fri shop 3 at Parrish. They
were -part of a series of authentic
industrial pictures called "Let's Go
Anierlca," released by the national
Industrial- council, an association of
American manufacturers. "Men and
Machines,'' and "America Yester
day, Today, and Tomorrow," were
the titles of the pictures.

Has Patriotic Issue
The Leslie "Broadcaster" came but
today during the sixth period. It was
composed of editorials on Washing
.ton, lawns and "Lefs Dance." Other

the teacher, invited T. H. West,
an Insurance man from Portland,
to speak to the classes. Mr. West

surance. When he had finished
speaking he let the students ask

Created at Leslie
A new set-up Is now being tried
at Leslie for the purpose of getting
more and better news In the Capital
Journal. Five people were chosen
from Miss Hale's first period English
class to organize the work. These
five students are Pat Melsinger, Lois
Barrick, Walter Bowman, Wally
Palmateer and Doris Plnneo, chair
man. From now on these five stud
ents will have departments, such as
sports, classroom notes, school activ
ities, and they will be responsible for
correcting and editing all material,
Storage Battery
Movie Shown
Miss Weinman's science classes at
Parrish had an opportunity, the
other day, to see the movie, "Story of
the Storage Battery."
From this the students learned the
history of the storage battery, and
were shown all the stages of Us de
velopment from "Its discovery down
to the present date. The film then
showed a storage battery being
made.
Photography- Discussed
Mr. Tavenner,. principal of Islie
junior high school, spoke to the fifth
period general Science and Social
Science classes on photography. He
spoke mostly about developing pic
tures, which consisted of negative
and positive pictures, what bright
and dark light does to a picture, and
finally ended by showing some dif
ferent types of pictures In his slide
machine.
Art Talk Broadcast
Some Leslie students had the priv
ilege of listening to the radio ad
dress of Mrs. Ida . Andrews over
KSLM February 20, on the develop
ment of art in the schools. It was
Interesting to them to hear the plan
of art work in school as correlated
with their interests and school sub
jects.
Motor to Aurora .
Wacorida Roy Patterson motored
to aurora to the home of his brother-in-law
and sister, the Ward Rus
sells, where he spent the day visit
ing with them and his mother, Mrs.
Richard Patterson, who has been
their house guest for several weeks.
Mrs. Patterson accompanied her
son back here and will spend sever
al weeks'1 at the home of another
daughter, Mrs; Robert Cole, in Mis
sion Bottom.
