Entertains Visitors
The Salem Business and ProfeS'
atonal Women's club entertained re
presentatives of 34 clubs Sunday at
the state Capitol building. Luncheon
and a tour of the building were aug'
men ted by an interesting program.
At luncheon covers were placed
for 185 In the capltol cafeteria with
60 additional guests at the Golden
Pheasant.
The program was opened with the
repeating of the club collect, led by
Evangeline Phllbln, first vice-presl
dent of the federation.

the events leading up to the com

laying of the cornerstone, the open
ing of the bronze doors, the raising
of the pioneer statue, dedication of
the capltol and the first Inaugura
tion.
Over too people went through the
capltol during the afternoon. Hugh
Scott acted as guide.
Mrs. C. P. Bishop Is again at her
Court street residence after being
confined to the Salem General hos
pital for observation.

annual sweetheart dinner at the
chapter house. The long dinner table
was centered with a bouquet of red
carnations and anemones surround

the table were small bouquets of
violets centered with a red anemone.

Honored Monday
Mrs. Quincy Scott, state president
of Pro-America, was honored at
luncheon Monday at the Hotel Argo
with a group of Salem and Portland
women in attendance. Later the
group made a tour of the state cap
ltol before attending the regular
meeting of Pro-America at the Ho
tel Marion.
Mrs. R. L. Wright presided and
Introduced Glen Wade, who spoke
on the "Gross Income BUI." Mrs.
Leon Brown made a talk on national
defense.
Mrs. Scott spoke Informally on
the recent national convention of
Pro-America In San Francisco and
also her tour of Oregon and her in
spection of numerous Oregon Pro
America organizations, Including
three units recently organized.
Mrs. Wright gave a resume of
bills In the house of representatives
before the meeting adjourned.

Comic Opera to be
Presented Soon
Preparations for the comic opera,
"H. M. 8. Pinafore." are rapidly tak
ing shape at Salem high school for
the final production March 3. Sev
enty students from the opera classes
will be appropriately costumed for
the event. These will be assisted by
a select group from the first year
classes in giving balance of parts.
There will be adequate instrumental
accompaniment to provide color and
variety.
"Pinafore" Is one of the best
known of the Gilbert and Sullivan
operas and abounds In humorous
situations and peculiar situations.
The music Is catchy and maintains
a refreshing character throughout
the entire opera. Of particular In
terest are the character and lines of
Dick Deadeye, the villain, and the
Interpretation this year promises to
be novel.
Miss Ola Clark la to serve as fac
ulty manager. Warren Carkln Is
student manager and In charge of
the advertising.

Is Scene of Vows
A pretty wedding occurred at St.
Joseph's Catholic church Saturday
morning at 9 o'clock when Miss
Betty Jane Brians, only daughter of
Mr. and Mra. Harry H. Brians, be
came the bride of John Francis Ma
lone of The Dalles.
Rev. Father Bernards read the
Impressive service. Miss Alena Brcn-
mer played the wedding march and
Mrs. Ronald Saunders sang.
Miss Margaret Malone, sister of
the bridegroom, was the bride's only
attendant, and Francis Brogsn, cou
sin of the bridegroom, acted as best
man.
The bride, who was given In mar
riage by her father, wore a floor-
length dress of Eleanor blue crepe
with a corsage of pink rosebuds and
pink bouvardla, and a coronet of
corresponding flowers.
The bridesmaid wore rose colored
taffeta with corsage of deep red
roses.
A wedding breakfast for the bridal
party and the two Immediate fami
lies was served at Godfrey's, followed
by an informal reception at the
home of the bride's parents at 1118
Oak street. Miss Lenore Mlckel of
Portland cut the bride's cake and
Miss Margaret Nathman presided at
the urns.
The bride was graduated from
Oregon 8tate college with the class
of 1931 and has been her father's
assistant In the Crown Drug store
for several years. -
