American Legion hu gone on rec

feet" and not to ask the taxpayers
to provide any such funds. It wu
brought out that at no meeting of
the state department heads or
state conventions had such a pro
posal been authorised.

Pilot Bill Vetoed

used hit veto power for the first
time when he killed the controver
sial pilot bill because "It would
tighten the monopolistic hold of the
Columbia river pilots' association
and the bar pilou association.'
The bill would provide for stute-
wide representation on the board,
and limit the number of bar pilots
to eight.
"It Is not sound public policy for
the state to foster closed monopolies.
The state should license all pilot ap
plicants who meet the necessary
qualifications,' he wrote In his veto
message.

commission was announced. The
next meeting of the Marlon council
will be held at Mt. Ansel In April,
the exact date to be announced later.
Following meeting of both the
council and the auxiliary, refresh
ments were served with dancing
concluding the evening
committee. Including Charles Prof
fltt, Edwin Thomas. Earl Headrlck,
Frosty Olson and Charles Bier, out
lined and discussed various promo
tional ideas of the "Spring Open
ing" which will be the 13th annual
event under Ad club sponsorship.
All plans and the tentative date
of the occasion will be submitted to
the club Friday noon for adoption
