The Fidelia class of the Jason Lee
Memorial church met In the fire
place room for a no-host dinner Fri
day evening. The patriotic motif was
carried out throughout the room and

Hughes-Powers Vows
Said in California
Old fit. Mary's church In San
Francisco saw the simple wedding
service of Miss Margaret Powers,
daughter of Mra. A. H. Powers of
Marshfifld, and Patrick Hughes, son
of Mrs. Anna Erhart of Portland,
on Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock.
The ceremony was performed by
the Rev. Father Henry I. aura.
The bride wore a wool ensemble of
cactus rose shade, with a corsage
of orchids. WKh It she wore a hat
of shiny black straw and black ac
eessorles.
Both young people are graduates
of the university of Oregon. Mrs.
Hughes was affiliated there with
Delta Oamma and Mr. Hughes with
Phi Oamma Delta. He later went
east for graduate work at Har
vard and University of Chicago.
Both are well known In Salem,
Following the wedding, dinner
was served at the home of the
bride's sister and brother-ki-law.

Bank Groups at
Woodburn Dinner
A group of more than 100 bank
officers, employes and friends gath
ered at Woodburn Thursday evening
for a forum dinner meeting of the
Marlon county chapter of the Amer
ican Institute of Banking with L. C.
Buchner, manager of the Woodburn
branch of the First National Bank
of Portland, presiding. -
Members were present from Mill
City, Silverton. Mt. Angel, Wood-
burn and Salem.
Dr. Burt Brown Barker, vice-pres
ident of the University of Oregon,
was the speaker of the evening, and
was Introduced by Lawrence Mann,
assistant vice-president of the First
National Bank of Portland.
Dr. Barker's talk, "The Money
Changer's Table," was made ex
tremely interesting due to the fact
of his having with him a genuine
money changer's table dating back
to the 16th century- He explained
the mechanism of the table to the
group, and outlined the progress of
the syttem of money handling from
the time of the early Biblical days
of money changes on until the first
banking organisations came Into ex
istence.
Miss Bessie O. Smith, president of
the Marion county chapter, an
nounced that the annual banquet
for the organisation would be held
In Salem during April In the form of
a dinner followed by an Informal
dance. Arrangements are In charge
of the women employes of the three
Salem banks, with Mrs. Cordis Wi
per of Ladd Ac Bush in eharge.

riage of Miss Myra Julia Hulser.

er of the United Press association.
Mrs. Johnson attended the Uni
versity of Oregon. Mr. Johnson is
a former Willamette student.
Alpha Mu Delphians have post
poned their next meeting until
March 8, The session was to have

Mrs. vera ostrander, department
head of the woman's auxiliary of
Disabled American Veterans of the
World war, returned recently from
a trip to Forest Orove and Oregon
City, where she made plans for the
forthcoming membership drive.
The sewing club of the woman s
auxiliary of the Disabled American
Veterans of the World War met at
the home of Mrs. Leon Hansen Fri
day afternoon. A shower was given

Tuesday, February 33, United
States Veterans' hospital, Portland,
will be host to Salem unit, woman's
auxiliary of the Disabled American
Veterans of the World War. The
officials of the hospital have arrang
ed an Inspection tour of the hospital.

tional president Appointment of
these International representatives,
of whom there will be one in each
state, is made with the approval and
concurrence of the state president,
who. In this Instance, Is Mrs. Zola
F. Morgan of Hillsboro.
Duties of the International repre
sentatives are to acquaint the clubs
throughout the state with the work
of the International Federation, to
assist In the arrangement of pro
grams for the observance of Inter
national night on February 35, and
to stimulate Interest and member
ship In the International Federa
tion, which was founded by the Na
tional Federation of the United
States in 1B30 and now has branch
es in 35 countries.
Mrs. Backes Is a former president
of the Klamath Falls Business and
Professional Women's dub and
former corresponding secretary and
treasurer of the Oregon Federation
of Business and Professional Wom
en's clubs. She Is a graduate of Al
berta, Canada, college and Is by
profession a fire Insurance agent,
She has been long Identified with
the Oregon Federation and has the
reputation of being an unusually
able executive, so that her appoint
ment as International Federation
representative is regarded as an ap
propriate one.
