Check Tires for Safety
Important among the services ren
dered by General Petroleum stations
during the Summerizing campaign,
or whenever cars are lubricated in
these service depots, is the in.spection
of tires. Good tires have an import
ant bearing on safe, satisfactory driv
ing, it is pointed out.
Seventy-three nundred and sixty
of the serious accidents in one re
cent year accidents in which per
sons were either killed or injured
were due to punctures or blowouts.
This is revealed by carefully com
piled rational records.
These records also show that the
heaviest percentage of tires respons
ible for the trouble were in faulty or
poor condition. In some states, offi
cial inspectors found more than 50
percent of automobile tires were In
either poor or only fair condition,
the treads, or discovery of tire faults
by the inspection experts, while a

MOVE TO AID
CAR OWNERS
Now that Spring is here, the au
tomobile must be carefully prepared
for hoc weather driving after a win
ter of hard usage.
This process is essential to safety.
It ts essential to prevent trouble, to
prevent burned-out bearings, over
heating, loss of power, blowing out
of tires, battery iailure and unneces
sary and expensive wear..
Announcing a big Summerizing
movement for the aid of car owners,,
local officials of General petroleum
Corporation and service stations fea-1
turiug this company's Mobil products1
advise that thin, winter oil and
grease must be replaced with heavier
lubricants to guard against undue
friction and mechanical difficulties.
It is explained, however, that the
Summerizing movement embraces
more than just changing oil and
grease. During this campaign the
stations and dealers are offering a
free inspection service that includes:
Draining of gasoline tank to re
move the winter's accumulation of
road dirt; cleaning of strainers and
blowing out of fuel lines to make sure
gasoline will flow freely; draining
and flushing of radiator, crank case,
transmission and differential; clean
ing and servicing of battery; testing
and cleaning spark plugs and light
bulbr, complete checking of tires;
checking the fan belt and oil filter;
cleaning interior oi car and polishing
of all glass.
To have these things done now,
while the Summerizing campaign is
on, declare General officials, means
to save regrets later. It means more
pleasure in driving and true economy
and safety in the long run.

TIRE TROUBLE
IS DOUBLE IN
HOTWEATHER
"Vacation Robber No. 1."
That's the dubious honor accorded
old, worn tires as the result of a
survey recently conducted by U. S.
Tire dealers in which tire troubles
axe reported by months and in which
it is shown that blowouts and punc
tures actually double in summer
months.
Tire failure hits its pek in Aug
ust, according to the findings, but
June and July are not far behind.
September also proves rather trou
blesome to thin casings.
While the amount of driving na
urally increases In summer it does
not increase nearly as fast as the
amount of tire trouble, thus proving
that hot weather Is largely respons
ible for the multiplying tire failures.
Tli is analysis of heat and Its rela
tion to tire performance was recently
made m testing the new U. S. Royal
Master a tire made of triple-tempered
rubber which is referred to in
the report as running exceptionally
cool under all weather conditions.
