SNAKE SCARE -CAUSES
DEATH
Austin, Tex. (IP) Half the people
who die every year after being bit
ten by snakes are scared to death,
and not actually killed by the
snakes, In the opinion of O. E. S.
Tordt, who makes a business of
raising reptiles and extracting their
venom for scientists.
To prove that -his side is more
than untested theory, Tordt points
to the fact that he himself Is still
alive, and has been bitten several
times. While going about the tick
lish business of holding a snake by
the Jaws, sticking his finger in its
mouth, and "milking" the poison
from the reptile's venom ducts,
Tordt occasionally is bitten. When
such accidents occur, he calmly cuts
the wound and sucks it. Before long
he Is ready to work on another
snake. ,
This expert also believes that
snakes really are friendly creatures
and won't bite anyone unless they
are hurt or scared. Treat them with
respect and don't make thein nerv
ous, and there's little danger of at.
tack, he says.

HOOLIGANISM IS
TARGET OF DRIVE
Moscow (LP) The Soviet Union's
spring drive against "hooliganism'
is under way and prices have been
set on various evils and - annoying
acts.
Each region makes its own "price
list" seriously, a set of fines and
some of them are amusing, iney
read like an index to "Peck's Bad
Boy."
In the 6arallnsky region, for in
stance, a lad with a bent lor mis-
chief can dig holes in the parks, or
stretcn logs across roads lor iuu
roubles. Or, for the same price, he
may frighten the horses of' some
unfortunate driver.
Other acts for which fines of
varying amounts may be assessed
are listed thus: reasonless shooting
in the streets, throwing stones at
passers-by, distributing porno
graphlc pictures and stretching
wire across sidewalks ,to trip pedes
trians. V

TEN CONTENTED
PAIRS GET ROLES
Springfield, Mo. (IP) The ten
commandments for a June bride
are simple, but are hard at times
to follow. Ten happily married per
sons gave the following suggestions
for lasting love:
Trust your happiness, and re
member that love grows with each
year of married life.
Keep up, in appearance, and in
tellectually. Cultivate interests in common
with one another.
. Hold to faith, and to courage.
Don't be selfish and egotistical
as to believe that you, alone, can
make him happy.
Live within your income.
Find what your husband likes
and do It. And always be polite
to him.
Don't be possessive.
Don't discuss your troubles with
outsiders.
Be patient, be game, and have
the pluck to fight it out.

JOHNSON SAW
STRIKE COMING
Washington (LP) The greatest
and most disastrous strike epidemic
in American history" was forecast
last March by General Hugh S.
Johnson, NRA administrator.
From motor assembly line to
freight caboose, labor is restless.
Major strikes have been avoided.
Blood has flowed in scattered min
or disputes.
Longshoremen, textile operatives,
automobile workers, railwayman
and the vast, sweaty host of the
steel mills are on the verge of strike
or near It.
Dispute centers most frequently
on Section 7-A of the National In
dustrial Recovery Act which guar
antees to labor the right of collec
tive bargaining. The Administra
tion has temporized in interpreting
the provision.
