READING COURSE
Out of a job? Wondering what

"Consider a reading course," sug
gested state librarian, Harriet 0.
Long.
"Courses In reading covering
practically any subject arc available
to Oregonlans at the state library
merely for the postage costs of
mailing books," said Miss Long.
"Each course treats a single subject
and Is prepared by a specialist for
the reader's pleasure and advance
ment. It Is 'reading with a pur
pose'." Electrical engineering. Interior
decorating, salesmanship, English
and short story writing are a few
of the requests recently filled by
the library, Miss Long said.
Scores of other courses are avail
able Immediately, if special sub
jects not yet prepared are desired,
the state library slnff will compile
special outlines, Miss Long an
nounced. "The first book of each course Is
a short volume giving a general
survey of the subject to be under
taken. Included is a list of books
supplying a progressive reading
course toward a definite end.
"The list of subjects runs from
the general head of 'appreciating
art' -to 'occupations and hobbies.'
Courses include architecture, great
American books, literature, figures
of history, u. 8. in recent times,
history, philosophy, psychology and
Its use, and the human body and
Its care.
"Capital and labor unemploy
ment, economics, foreign relations,
biology, physical sciences, sales
manship, advertising, Journalism,
home economics and flower gard
ening are other subjects."

(IP) Mrs. B. h. Tucker of
Myrtle Point has had the
experience of being carried
off a football field In the
manner of an Injured grid
Iron warrior, but none of tho
satisfaction of competing for
the alma mater.
Mrs. Tucker started across
the gridiron just as the Co
qullle and Myrtle Point ele
vens went into action. Caught
in the maelstrom of a scrim
mage she was taken from the
field with a broken leg.
Red Cross Starts
Mt. Angel Campaign
Mt. Angel The Mt. Angel com
munity Is now working with the
other Red Cross districts by holding
a membership drive here with Jos
eph J. Keber, member of the Mar
ion county Red Cross committee for
this district, in charge. Keber ap
pointed a soliciting committee con
sisting of Mrs. N. G. Mickel, Mrs. Leo
Barr and Mrs. Rose Ebner. Mt. An
gel residents who wish may leave
their $1 at the Bank of Mt. Angel
if they wish to become a member.
The Red Cross has accomplished a
great deal of good in Marlon coun
ty In the past and is making plans
to aid the local relief committee this
winter.

STATION APPROVED
The Eyerly Aircraft corporation
now has a department of commerce
approved repair station, being the
first organization of this kind re
ceiving this high rating and one of
three In the entire Pacific northwest.
The U. 8. department of commerce
awarded the certficate after Lieut.
Olen w. Neal, department of com
merce Inspector for Oregon, gave his
final approval of the setup.
The shops have adequate facilities
and personnel to handle major over
haul of both engines and airplanes.
A new reinforced concrete dope
and paint room ,45 by 30, has been
constructed large enough to house
good-sized airplane. It Is fitted
with sliding steel doors made in the
Eyerly shops, fire curtains, automa
tic fire doors, four flood lights, large
paint racks and ventilation system.
The plant also has its own steam
heating system which assures the
correct degree of temperature at all
times.
A complete fabric room has been
installed in the main shop for sew
ing, cutting and covering airplane
wings and fuselages. Modern equip
ment Is furnished throughout and
a considerable amount of new ma
chinery has been Installed.

Rhynsburger Is a graduate of Iowa
State college of Engineering and at
tended the Oes Moines university.
Ho was employed by the Cessna
Airplane company at Wichita, Kan.
when that company first started op
erations, being their field manager
and operations supervisor. Later he
was employed by the Boeing Air
Transport company of cneyenne,
Wyo., where he had charge of en
gine installation after which he be
came affiliated with the Transcon
tinental & Western Air Express, su
pervising all engine Installation and
assembly.

MOTT'S SUCCESSOR

Mott will resign as corporation
commissioner when he takes office
In the national congress March 4,
1933, he informed United Press. By
that date, all financial racketeering
prosecutions he has initiated will
be before the courts. A number of
cases still are to come for trial.
The corporation department Is
in Euch shape that the new com
missioner will have an easier time
than as experienced during the
last two years, Mott hoped. Effi
cient conduct of the office Is de
pendent on a commissioner who
understands the state savings and
loan law and the "blue sky" sta
tute dealing with securities. Desire
and ability to enforce the statu
tes are necessary.
