Anniversary
Celebrated
The (olden wedding anniversary
ef Mr. and Mrs. Albert B. Straw
was brilliantly celebrated Sunday
afternoon with a dinner and re
ception at their home on South
13th street.
The attractively decorated table
was centered with a large white and
gold wedding cake topped with the

Mr. and Mrs. straw were married
t Plalnfield, Wis., 50 years ago
Sunday. All of their children ana
grandchildren were present to help
them celebrate the fiftieth anniver
sary of their marriage.

ter street Saturday evening in com
pliment to Mr. and Mrs. Paul
Doney of Carlisle, Pa., who are

with a bowl of snap dragons and
rases in delicate pastel hues. Cov
ers were placed for nine guests.

visitors for a short time before go
ing on to California, where they will

Word has reached Salem that Mr.
and Mrs. Earl Shafer (Eugenia Zle
ber) wlU arrive In Salem the first
of July from their home In San
Francisco. Mr. and Mrs. Shafer are
always popular visitors here and will
be the Inspiration for several Inter
esting affairs during their visit.
Mrs. Carl Emmons and Miss Mar
garet-Jane Emmons motored to
Portland last Wednesday to be the
guests of Mrs. W. W. Emmons and
Miss Lula Heist, for the remainder
of the week. They returned to Salem
Sunday evening.

Weds lioseburg Man
Silverton A very pretty wedding
was an event of Saturday afternoon
at 4 o'clock when- Sylvia Rentz,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anton
Rentz of Mt. Angel, became the
bride of Prentice Hovde of Silverton,
son of Ole Hovde of North Dakota.
The ceremony was performed at the
church parsonage with Rev. Father
Berchtold officiating In the single
ring ceremony. Leonard Graham,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Will Oraham
of Silverton was best man and Miss
Anna Rentz, sister of the bride, was
bridesmaid. Other attendants were
Christiana Zerr and George Hovde.
Little Delores Rue, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Elmer Rue, was flower girl.
The bride's gown was of taffeta
of a pale green color heavily trim
med In real lace, designed in semi-
formal style of princess type. She
wore a veil and carried a large
bouquet of pink roses and sweet
peas. Her two attendants were
gowned In pastel shades of silk and
carrined similar bouquets of roses
in yellow and pink colors.
After a two weeks' wedding trip
the young couple will make their
home in Roseburg.
A reception and wedding dinner
was held at the home of Mrs.
Hovde's parents, Mr. and Mrs. An
ton Rentz, cn Main street in Mt.
Angel, Immediately following the
ceremony, rne rooms .were Beauti

Mrs. Gustav Verdick (Edna Crab-
tree), whose wedding was an Inter
esting event of June 5, was sur
prised by a group or her friends
Friday evening at the Verdick home
on University street. The evening
was spent In playing games and in
Informal talk. Later in the evening
the bride was presented a number
of attractive gifts.

Married
A very pretty wedding was solem
nized Saturday evening at 9 o'clock
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. T.
Wood when Miss Elizabeth Gilbert
and John Schoenbechler were united
in marriage. The service was read by
the Rev. P. W, Ferguson before an
improvised altar of roses and del
phinium. The bride, a lovely brunette.'wore
a becoming gown of white lace made
in long princess lines, with tiny puff
sleeves. She carried a shower bou
quet of sweet peas, carnations and
roses.
Out-of-town guests for the wed
ding included Mrs. J. L. Harrison of
Baker, the bride's mother, and Mr.
and Mrs. Allsup and Miss Betty
Becke of Gervals.
After July 1 the young couple will
be home to their friends in Salem.
Townseiuls Return
From Trip
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Townsend.
accompanied by the Misses Dorothy
and Phyllis McCumber of Burke,
Mont., returned to Salem Sunday
after a month's trip In the middle
west and Rocky mountain states.
Mr. and Mrs. Townsend spent two
weeks as the guests of Mrs. Town
send's mother, Mrs. George Satter-
lee in Billings, Mont., before preced
ing to South Dakota, where they
were the guests of friends for sev
eral days. They also spent some time
in Denver and Salt Lake City before
returning by motor to Salem.
The Misses McCumber are cousins
of Mrs. Townsend and will be her
house guests for the next two weeks
at the Townsend home on North
Cottage street.
Several of the members of the W.
R. C. will motor to Corvallls Wed
nesday to attend the Grand Army
encampment, which is now in ses
sion in Corvallls.
Mr. and Mrs. George Voris will be
among those motoring over and ac
companying them will be Mrs. Ina
Koon, Mrs. Ada Fellows and Mrs.
Jennie F. B. Jones.
Another group motoring over for
the session will be Mrs. Sarah Pet
erson, Mrs. Laura McAdams, Mrs.
Helen Southwick. Mrs. Bertha Love
land and Mrs. Mary Kennedy.

Mr. and Mrs. John P. Robins are
spending a month camping along
tne Danks of the Metohus river. Ac
companying them are several friends
from Palo Alto and Berkeley, Calif.
Mr. and Mrs. Robins will return to
Berkeley In the early fall where Mr.
Robins has a teaching position.

Elects Delegates
The American Legion Auxiliary
met at the Fraternal Temple Mon
day evening to elect delegates to
tne state convention, preceding tne
national convention which will
open In Portland September 13.
Mrs. M. J. Melenlor was elected
president at the group, and Mrs.
P. N. Waters and Mrs. H. R. White
will go as delegates.
Alternates selected were Mrs.
Elbert Bradford, Mrs. Christopher
Butte, and Mrs. J. T. Delaney.
The meeting Monday night will
be tne last one until tne early ran.
Plans were made to help in the
Fourth ot July celebration, which
Is being sponsored by tne Legion.
Mrs. Elliott
To Visit in East
Mrs. F. A. Elliott will leave on the
first lap of an Interesting trip Wed
nesday evening. Her first stop will
be In San Francisco, where she will
visit for two weeks as the guest of
friends. From there Mrs. Elliott
plans to go to New Orleans, and
then on to Illinois, where she will
spend the remainder of the summer
visiting with relatives. She expects
to return to Salem the early part of
September.

by Miss Lillian Kayser recently
with a delightful evening party at
her home.

tive scheme sweet peas, in the dainty
pastel shades. At the supper hour
