evening with Ernie V. Miller, second
vice-president, presiding.
Stayton The Ladles' Lesion club
held Its meeting Monday night at
the home of Mrs. Eva Humphrey at
which time the club members that
were present made definite arrange
ments to organize an auxiliary. At
the last meeting of the club Mrs.
Anne R. Jones, president of District
No. I was present and explained the
work of the auxiliary, alter which
the clnb members thoroughly dis
cussed the situation and felt that an
organisation as worthy as the Am
erican Legion auxiliary should be
organized here in Stayton without
any difficulty for the Stayton Post
has a membership of 120 members.
There were 12 members signed up:

company held Its annual meeting
Saturday In the auditorium of the
high school. The budget of $2777
which was prepared by the directors,
C. W. Herman, John Comer, Ray
Austin, George Case and J. W.
Staudinger was passed. The by -laws
were voted down by a vote of 187
to 11. It would have taken 195 votes
for the by-laws to pass, as that is a
majority of the stock holders.
The telephone rates were cut for
19:.J. The country honrai are $7.50,
city residences $8.50 and- business
telephones $12.50 a year.
The new directors elected are Leo
Shaver, J. W. Staudinger, George
Case. Phil Sterner and Albert Erics
son. Following the election the direc
tors held a meeting and Leo Shaver
was elected president; J. W. Staud
inger, vice president, and George J.
Cose, secretary-treasurer.

SCHEDULES PROJECT

was hostess for the first division of
the Royal Cooks 4-H cooking club.
This club divides its group for so
cial meetings, the 7th and 8th grades
forming one division and the 5th
and 6th grades another.
Following the business meeting a
social program was enjoyed with
Doris Masie in charge. Hazel Woel
ke gave an instrumental solo, after
which games and stunts were played.
Club sours were sung. A definite
program was outlined by the leader,
Mrs. Iouls WamplPr, with comple
tion of the project slated for April 1.
Division No. 1 will hold Us meeting
Thursday at the home of Quentlan

annual Valentine dance and card
social to be given early In February
by the Catholic, Daughters of Am
erica at the business meeting held
Monday evening in the music room
of the St. Mary's school. The date
of the social and dance will be an
nounced later.
Miss Rose Schwab was appointed
chairman In charge of the dance.

the distribution. A number of needy
ones have been asking for warm
clothing.
Cards were played after the busi
ness meeting. Mrs. Rose Ebuer re
ceived the high score prize and Miss
Rose Schwab received the door prize.

election of the advisory board took

Salem will be returned and new
ones ordered.

CEMETERY IS
OF INTEREST
Woodburn The annual meeting
of the Belle Passi cemetery associa
tion was held in the council cham
bers at the city hall Monday eve
ning and was lagely attended, more
than 60 voters being present.
Interest entered around the elec
tion of a director for a term of three
years and F. W. Settlemler was
elected by ft large majority. The op
posing candidate was J. J. Bidwell.
Directors holding over are C. J. Rice
and C. F. Whitman. A meeting of
the board of directors will be held
soon to appoint a secretary-treasurer
and sexton. Oeorge Landon no
holds the office of secretary-treasurer,
and Alfred Klamp Is sexton.
Many Improvements have been
made in the cemetery this year, in
cluding a new graveled roadway
along the east' side with a curb

construction. The new part east of
this will be patterned after the more
modern cemeteries and will have an
entirely flat surface with no mounds
or curbs. The entire cemetery has
been cleaned and is now In very fine

small son of Chris Thorkhildson. un
derwent an emergency operation at
the Silverton hospital Sunday eve
ning and Is reported to be progress
ing satisfactorily. Others operated
on at the hospital recently, all ot
whom are doing well, are: Mrs. H. E.
Brown of Silverton Hills, a minor
operation: Joe Schmidt, Silverton, a
major opcation Monday; John Llch
ty of Silverton, emergency major op
eration Tuesday night; and Mrs. Ar
thur Borland of Sherwood, who has
been at the hospital for more than
a week under observation, and un
derwent a major operation Monday.

Airlie A group of boys and girls
of Airlie high school plan to organ
ize a dramatic club and give a short
one-act play on Friday afternoons.
Proceeds will be used for stage scen
ery to be used In the coming three
act play they plan to give later.
