motion pictures what it consufcre
the merits of prohibition, without
overlooking a resume of unfavorable
conditions in the saloon tfsya.
Tlie extent of this campaign was
outlined by McBrtde soon after Pro
hibition Director Woodcock had
made known bis approval of the
prosecution In St. Louis of a mer
chant who sold grape Juice which
turned into wine.
But Woodcock explicitly said tlie
cade was not a precedent for whole
sale rounding up of grape Juice sell
ers, so the problem of Just how to
regard the widespread sale of an
innocent beverage destined to ac
quire illegal potency remained very
much up in the air.
The puzzle was enlivened by re
cent report gangsters had threat
ened death to Juice men If they

apparently well authenticated infor
mation the California grape growers
had appealed to the department of
Justice for protection under laws
which forbid restraint of Interstate

take part in guiding the movement.

said, in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and

was held bore Wednesday In the
W. O. W. hau. The farmers rgara

Cattle Breeders association, and the
Dairymen's Cooperative asaociatkm.

In the forenoon and a round-table

former representative from Yamhill
county, presided. A baiket dinner
was served In tlte hall at noon and
a social hour held.
In the afternoon the Farmers
union held a meeting. Numerous
speeches were made. R. W. Clark ot
Salem who is a director of the Dai
rymen's association, spoke of the ad
vantages of cooperating and Roger
Morse of the O. A, C. dairy depart
ment and Senator Joe Dunn, were
also on the program and gave In
structive talks, 8. A. White, county
agent, presided In tlie afternoon.
This meeting was one of a series
of six farm meetings to be held In
Yamhill county dunng the week.
